A lot of new limiters, compressors and equalizers appear nowadays. Damn, I already have GPP-1. Will this never end ? Finalis looks good, BTW.
I hope I will stop buying this stuff for the next 6 months :D

:o :o :o
Hope the sound quality is according to their other
plugins. I own copies of the 2 EQs and Neodynium.

Will they offer special bargain for existing customers?

I hate EAS because they have so well thought out guis. Even if you already have your solution they whisper "you want me, you want me ..." :P

Yes, they're offering 50% off for their customers.

Finalis is amazing BTW, been playing with it for a while and you can get a lot of volume with minimal distortion or other such artifacts out of this thing. Very very nice, and even better, it's really transparant. I remember having tried out Elephant 2 and really liking it for similar reasons, but without having A/B'd the two, I think Finalis just sounds better.

PeterL, I've been using Finalis with the GPP-1 on some songs, using the GPP-1 to just smooth out the initial peaks and add some color, then using Finalis as the final limiter. Try it.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Funkybot, next Elephant update will feature EL-3 mode which has a longer release setting - it stands comparison to Finalis (at low levels). But if you want to get a loud sound, Finalis is not of the same league - it pumps a lot more than Elephant.

Unbiased opinion?

Jk Aleksey :)

Hi Alesky good to know, and in truth I haven't spent the amount of time with Elephant that I had with Finalis (I was beta testing to completely honest so I've had it for a while), but I was also very impressed with Elephant. One day I'll try the two against each other on some various kind of material to see where the strengths/weaknesses of each are, but as of right now Finalis has been working great for me, with more dynamic, less aggressive material. I was able to boost the average level of one song considerably even though it had a fairly dynamic (by modern standards) quite loud change. I was able to boost without any noticable pumping when the song really kicked in, but without it sounding squashed either. It just sounded very fluid and open, which isn't a sound I'd normally associate with most brickwall limters. I did have the release time set to about 900ms though, as I did find that faster release times just didn't sound quite right, and just felt to aggressive for that particular song. Anyway, I haven't purchased a Voxengo product yet, but I have a few on my wishlist, I imagine one day I'll just by all of the ones I want at once, as I just really dig your stuff.

phatty, indeed, it is biased, but I have compared Finalis to Elephant to understand the flaws in Elephant. I came to conclusion that new EL-3 mode fills the gap between EL-2 mode and the clean (but not very loud) sound Finalis offers. On the other hand Finalis does not cover 'high gain' limiting well in my opinion.

Funkybot, thanks for explanation.

Alesky if you want a second set of ears to test out the new EL-3 mode, I'd be happy to give it a go for you. I know you do a lot of public betas but if you want that extra set of ears before release, feel free to PM me, or e-mail me at the same name as I post on here at aol.com (trying to avoid spammers).

That's truth. With Finalis I'm able to get RMS ~ -12db w/o pumping. If I'm going higher it pumps. But I think that -12 is quite enough.

This is quite the cool effect limiter. It's definitely not suited for the hardest loudness mastering as it starts to audibly pump early on. But what a smooth release in this pump!

The overall sound and performance remind me an awful lot of the original Waves L1 TDM version. (yes that's right, the waves plugin native versions sound quite different, Waves TDM versions have quite a bit of extra definition, accuracy and smoothness...)

I can imagine using this instead of a basic compressor in a lot of places in a mix, driven especially hard to bring out the pump. I liked its signature "high end" pump performance. No other plugin does this quite the same.
