Hi,

I can't hear the difference between a good and bad dither, at least on my set up... but I am sure there actually is a difference.

What plugs are available for dithering? Any opinions on quality?

I use Ozone 3 at the moment, but I don't use it for much else most of the time, so I am looking for other options in case I sell Ozone. the only other prog I use which has dither is audacity, which has a few shape options.

If you can't hear it, it won't matter anyway...

What type of music do you make? If your music mainly sits at the top of the dynamic range (rock, trance) then in my opinion the effect of dithering is hardly noticable.

you should NOT be able to hear dithering! if you do, it's too much!

the effect is quite a big one, especially if you downsample highres material...which is what the function was designed to assist with.

look you can't hear *it*, but you can hear it does *something*, no?
Otherwise there is theoretically absolutely no such thing as 'better' or 'worse' quality dithering. I believe this to not be the case, so...the questions remain.

well, it's supposed to add very low level noise so that any low level sounds that sound good when played at 24 bits or higher doesn't degrade to fuzzyness when downsampled...an incorrect algo would lead to less effecient downsampling.

record something at a very low level using a high bitrate and then downsample using dif. dither algos...then deside which has the best quality.
Voila! you've found your "best" dither setting!
