I've not listened to your track and don't take this personally but if you carried some kind of reputation that made me desperate to hear your track then I would no doubt make the extra effort. It's the same with soundclick accounts basically - if I can't just right click and save as then I'm not gonna bother. If you want feedback then you need to take the mountain to mohammed (or something). In essence yes it is laziness but you're the one that wants feedback...Acolmiztli wrote:Its one file. One singular file that Winamp should have come with anyway. Its a 200kb dll file that goes in the Winamp plugins folder.
I don't see you reasoning. I don't mind at all, its your computer, do what you like. But at least be honest and just admit that its laziness. Nothing to do with pollution.
OGG is more efficient than mp3, I'm not using mp3 ever again. I don't even rip my CD's to mp3 anymore, its all OGG.

I had a similar discussion a few months ago with a guy that refused to upload his new material to his OMD page, instead opting to only use BitTorrent to distribute his music:
if you're going to use a system or format that is non-standard, please don't gripe and whine when people can't be arsed to bend over backwards to hear your music. if you want to use OGG, that's absolutely your right and I would be the last person to tell you otherwise. but be aware that not everyone can play OGG files, and those who can't generally aren't going to run out and download (an) extraneous file(s) to hear a single track. especially when there are literally millions of other tracks on the internet in more convenient formats that are more widely accepted.
with that said, I am a little disheartened that you'll never release anything in mp3 again. I do enjoy the tracks of yours that I have and they make regular appearances on my internet broadcasts.
anyway, I wasn't going to make a big deal out of this in your thread, but you asked and I gave you my honest answer. I'm not going to turn this thread into a discussion of OGG viability. we can start another thread in an appropriate forum if you want to do that.

I'm not making a big deal of it, but its really not that hard. How long does it take to download a 200kb file? How long does it take to put that particular file into a particular directory?
How much time does it take to ensure that you'll be able to play OGG files for the rest of your current installations uptime (as in before your next clean format)
Not even 10 seconds. I could probably see your point if the procedure took 10 minutes, but for 10 seconds? C'mon, time is precious yes, but 10 seconds? I give people on the street 10 seconds everyday because they can't be bothered to walk any faster!!
Intel you don't have to go without listening to my music, but you are choosing to do it out of some very bizzare reason, I just don't get it.

No problem listening with Winamp.
Didn't like the crackle which just distracted from the music. Nothing wrong with clean. Good production but I would have preferred more development.

Yeah, but its not just a question of downloading a codec for WinAmp.
My CD player plays MP3s. But not oggs.
My Minidisc software will convert MP3's. But not oggs.
My DVD player plays MP3's. But not oggs.
Anything I'm likely to put your track on to play off my computer cant handle oggs at all.
In other words, you're refusing to make your music available in the most useful format, for some bizarre reason, and you seem to be blaming us because we dont download in the more inconvenient format you've decided on. If you want the audience, you adapt. Not vice versa.
Its your attitude problem, not ours.

I don't understand your logic. So because your hardware doesn't support a format, its my fault you wont listen?whyterabbyt wrote:In other words, you're refusing to make your music available in the most useful format, for some bizarre reason, and you seem to be blaming us because we dont download in the more inconvenient format you've decided on. I'm not asking for people to burn my music to a CD and to listen to it all the time, I'm asking for a one-time affair. I'm asking for people with computers to listen to my music, and as far as I know, all computers are capable of listening to OGG files if the user is willing to grab one file.
Anything you do after downloading my music has NOTHING to do with me. NOTHING.
Kriminal already offered a solution of converting the file if you want to burn it to a CD or anything like that.
The reason I use OGG is because it is BETTER. But then again, I shouldn't be surprised. Lots of people use Ipods, even though there are better and cheaper units available. You can never defeat the Status Quo I guess.
f**k it. Don't listen.

Sure... first person that acknowledged that I said that mind you.
Just pisses me off that everyone is gripped by mp3 when it is inferior to OGG.
Uploading an mp3 now.

Acolmiztli quoth
I don't understand your logic.
Not my problem, although I suspect there's a certain degree of 'deliberate refusal to accept', there.
So because your hardware doesn't support a format, its my fault you wont listen?
Its your fault you put it in an inconvenient and much less common format. Its your fault that you are complaining that its 'bizarre' that people dont want to use that format.
So yes. It is 'your fault'. But that wasn't what I was saying. You should learn to understand the simple difference between 'explanation of why I might not do something' and 'I blame you for me not doing that thing'
I'm not asking for people to burn my music to a CD and to listen to it all the time, I'm asking for a one-time affair.
Then whats the point of the refusal to provide a format those people might prefer? Pride? Stubbornness?
I'm asking for people with computers to listen to my music, and as far as I know, all computers are capable of listening to OGG files if the user is willing to grab one file.
So what? If you provided it in .rm format, I wouldnt download it either. I download stuff in the formats that are useful to me not you.
Anything you do after downloading my music has NOTHING to do with me. NOTHING.
But I wont be downloading it. Its not in a convenient format for me.
Kriminal already offered a solution of converting the file if you want to burn it to a CD or anything like that.
Why should I waste my time, if you insist on making me take extra steps for some incomprehensible reason?
The reason I use OGG is because it is BETTER.
But less convenient. 'Convenience' is the actual 'better' for me.
But then again, I shouldn't be surprised. Lots of people use Ipods, even though there are better and cheaper units available. You can never defeat the Status Quo I guess.
A compete irrelevance to the subject at hand. Its about convenience.
f**k it. Don't listen.

Doesnt get enough listens so he whines. People tell him why they dont listen, so he blames them. Gets told that his choices are his own fault, so he gets abusive.
What pathetic, childish behaviour.
