Hi, could you listen this mp3 sample ... i would like to now how to reproduce the bass sound ... hardware ? software ? compression ?

Thanks

 :help:

1. bass sound->lp filter with resonance->*slam* it with a compressor->sidechain to duck on kick.
2. come up with a funky line
3. profit!

Given the 'color' of the sound, you might want to use a bass guitar, or a sampled version. That usually delivers a little more 'punch' than a synthesized bass sound.
I am Godzilla! You ara Japan!

I don't think there's much sidechaining going on in that sample MP3. It's just overcompressed to death.
What a shitty mixing job.

The bass however seems to be a real bass.

It is a sidechained compressor, well certainly on a couple of those samples anyway. I've done a lot of research on this and actually bought the TC native bundle just for the sidechain ability. You say it's a shitty mixing job but it's actually done on purpose :) Sounds quite good on a big system.

Not to my ears, not at all. The chords and a LOT of other things are suppressed when kicks and basses come in - I just hate this. Has got to be one of the worst mixes I've heard in a while.

Fair enough, but the reason the chords are supressed is because they are sidechained to the compressor, or I should say the compressor is sidechained to the kicks.

If Daft Punk etc have been getting away with stuff like this for 10 years then how can you say it's the "worst mixing you've heard in a long while"? Each to their own I s'pose.

Yeah, I think there's some sidechaining going on, but not kick to bass, but rather the kick to everything-except-bass.
I agree with Sascha that the overall effect is an overcompressed pumpfest. Intentional perhaps, but "Satisfaction" it ain't.

:-o
you're right, this REALLY sounds crappy...

No sidechain needed for this, just pump a compressor really hard.
Here is an example of a pumping compressor I just made to prove my point:

Yeah, defenitely no sidechain needed. The sheer amount of compression plus the rather high levels of kick/bass will automatically compress anything else just fine.

You should have saved your money and bought ORION, it has sidechains built in and they work on cool things like the Sampler's filter and stuff as well as on compressors.
