Damn that is sweet. Better than a scale book by far. You and Markleford have made this instrument into far more than Yamaha ever dreamed possible. In some ways your mods have even made it better than a Ztar (and I only paid $250 for my EZ-EG). :D :D :D

Andrew -- those videos are very cool. I wish I had your skills, maybe with the scales mod I will someday. The piano video is remarkable, considering the instrument you are playing it with.

Thanks Marc, this is really cool. Somebody really should show Yamaha all these great stuffs to let them know what they've missed.

BTW, has anyone checked out the EZ Trumpet? Could it be a cheap alternative to a wind MIDI controller?

I've only read about it: not even sure if any have ever been seen outside Japan and Spain! But I'm interested, as a brass player.

I haven't seen the video you mention. It causes realplayer to crash everytime I try to view it. Anyway, you should not need to know sysex to use the EZ-AG as a synth controller via midi. Simply plug the midi out of the ez-ag into the midi in of whatever you want to control. To help more than that I will need to know more about what you mean by "playing only chord". Do you mean no strumming of the "strings"?

In the video Markleford played the EZ-EG by just tapping the fretboard without using the strings. With a non-velocity sensitive patch I think you can just plug and play. For more flexibility you'll need the scripts of Marc or Markleford (or my own script, but theirs are far more flexible). I'm at work now, when I'm at my music machine, I'll try to explain how to use them.

Yeah, I finally got to see the video. As you said, this can be done without running scripts by removing the velocity sensitivity on the synth/sample player.

Now for the big question. Why doesn't Markleford show his face in the video?

Simply incredible guys. It's really great to see a few industrious fellows take a "toy" and with a little elbow grease (And Javascript) turn it into a very interesting instrument.

And Andrew, I really enjoyed the demos you put up, particularly the string demo. Great stuff.

To paraphrase Douglass Adams, it's quite an epiphony to go from not knowing something exists, to wanting that something, to owning it all in the course of about 40 seconds.

I have a feeling that I'll be buying one of these puppies pretty soon. Keep up the good work guys. If you improve this thing much more Yamaha is going to have to start writing some checks out to you fellows.

He's wanted for espionage in Guatamala. He's afraid that they'll send assassins if anyone sees his face.

Or maybe he's got a zit. How the hell should I know? :D

Just tried out the scales and chords tonight.

OMFG

This is waaaaaaay too coool. This makes learning scales far easier than anyone ever dreamed. I can't beleive you even put all those scales in there -- I was expecting to input scales in binary (I even bought the guitar Grimoire today to input scales). I've never even attempted to learn any flamenco guitar, but now its as simple as loading a nylon guitar in sampletank, pick a key, load a scale and jam. Sweet. My skills (and enjoyment) are going straight up^^^^

Holy shit Marc. You rule!

(The rest of you that are "thinking" about getting this should put you orders in right now)

It's such a tiny video: wasn't it better to show as much fretboard as possible? ;)

But if you absolutely need to match a face with the playing...

EZ_AG 3.hta : the triggers where not loaded
MIDIX.ocx : very nasty bug when loading/saving a midi file with sysex in it.

EZ_AG 3.hta v. 3.03 and midix.ocx v 1.003 cand be found here:

Hi Guys,

This thing looks & sounds AMAZING!!!

Ye really have me interested in hooking one up to Absynth :)

Can anyone point me to where I'd pick up the EZ-EG - Im in Ireland and the only UK links I found were either to the AG (would prefer the EG) or Amazon.com (who wont ship to Ireland)?

I really hope I have not gotten excited about something I cant get my hands on :)

Thanks Everyone!

Dave
