I'm surprised no one is talking more about the Melohman features here. They're really quite

. I've come up with a bunch of great sounds that'll either smoothly morph from one into the other or create really cool effects as they slowly morph from one to the other. It's really just been a lurvly experience.

When it comes to striaght sounds MinimoogV does sound like it has more low end, a little more hifi even, though Minimonsta is no slouch in the low end department either. For some reason though Minimonsta just sounds a hell of a lot more aggressive and just real. I've been able to closely replicate some patches that I suspect are created on mini's (though I'm not positive and don't care all that much) off some albums I like from everyone from the Rentals to the Comas, and what Minimonsta does is seem to nail those sounds better, while when trying to create that patch on the Arturia MinimoogV the sounds seem kind of like idealized versions of the originals. Me, I think a prefer a little more dirt.

Is one better than the other? Well I like the rawness of Minimonsta, I think the Minimonsta filter has an edge over the MinimoogV one at extreme settings, and the Melohman features are great. The Arturia too though can sound great, though certainly different, with a character that sounds just a bit more mellow and hifi for lack of a better word for comparison. If not for the Melohman features this would be a lot harder decision for me, but I really dig what I've been able to do with Minimonsta in normal-moog-mode, and have just been blown away as to what I can do with it using the Melohman features. Because of this I'm actually glad I waited.

BTW my biggest Minimonsta complaint is the switches on the GUI. A few times during my programing I'd too hung up looking at a particular switch trying to decide if it was on or off. I heard some complaints about the knobs, but I can see them just fine (especially compared to MinimoogV) and love the way they handle.

Oh and Scam_Artist, I think Dave from G-Media kind of hinted that impOSCar might be due for a melohman makeover.

Been messing with this for a few hours. The sound seems a bit compressed. You can defintely tell it's a soft synth.

Nothing Reaktor can't do. Im amazed.

Also, does anyone else's eyes hurt after using the Minimonsta? It feels all blurry or wierd or something.

Same here. At first I thought it was because I was using it at 4:30 AM at the end of a long day. Then after a good day's sleep I dragged myself into the studio and gave it another try. This is what I feel like now:

Pro53 sounds like shite, i can't believe you'd even mention that thing here.

BTW, i have MiniMax, so i won't be getting this, but it is sounding quite close.

I'd really like to retire my Minimax for a native solution but the Minimonsta is not quite there yet for me. I like it a lot but the main disappointment for me is in the bass area. I can easily get good bass patches on my Minimax without much fuss. I don't know if the previous poster compared bass type sounds with his Minimax. Other than that it's an excellent VSTi. Hopefully this will be addressed soon.

Now the Pro-53 is not really that good comparing it with Creamware's Profit 5. It's night and day difference and it was also designed by its creator. John Bowen even said the Pro-53 is about 80% there. Also, keep in mind that the Pro-53 is first generation VSTi and its VA methods are not as good as the new softsynths.

My demo just ran out so I ordered it from www.audiomidi.com for $149

The Melohman features are amazing and this is an incredible instrument but it seems that a small minority here prefer pointless fights and spreading misinformation about which Mini is best.

Call me crazy but I love the Pro-53, and I have access to my old Prophet-5 rev 3.2 that sits in my friend's studio. It's got the character of the original that I love, but with a low-fi quality that imo adds to the sound rather than detracting from it. It's kind of like my old Mirage or Emax. Beautiful! When I run it through the 1176 and Pultec on my UAD-1, it's nirvana!

The Oddity imo is Gmedia's masterpiece. The Minimonsta's great but is missing something next to my Minimoog. The Oddity is bang on.

I bought a real minimoog last year and I compared it with the minimonsta demo and the minimonsta sounds more like a minimoog than a real minimoog.

I think a lot of people have idealised versions of synths in their heads the way they imagine they should sound, often straight outta the box most analogues are flat boring and run of the mill, its how they are recorded that imortalises the sound in our subconcious.

The Pro53 is and was an amazing piece of software and was badly programmed right from the start, the NI libraries that came with it did nothing to show the plug in a good light, which is a shame coz its a belter of a synth and could still stand up against the best of modern day vsti's.
