All works perfectly now... I installed the fully-workin g 30 day trial of Vsampler 3, extracted the exe file, and in vsampler:

1. File -> New -> Library
2. Click Import
3. Click 'GIG'
4. Load the gig file
5. Click the program you want to convert
6. Choose somewhere to save WAV files (takes a while)
7. File export -> SF2 (?) (Takes a while)
8. Choose yes to delete wave files after this
9. Done

Takes like 3-5 minutes to load into RAM in reason tho

Yes, it's excruciatingly slow to load in VSampler 3, but yikes! it's a nice sounding and playing piano.

I'd have to say this is one of the nicest free pianos I've played. It's very useable too. We have the Emperor, Old Lady and the Boesendorfer 290 pianos from PMI and they sound awesome by them selves, but sometimes when they're in with other instruments, they tend to not play together well. They have too much tone and timbre. Can that be?

This piano is very nice on weighted and unweighted keys too. Often when playing piano samples with a weighted key keyboard, they're so stiff. I have to bang the keys too hard to get a tone out of them, because the person tweaking the samples has an unweighted keyboard or something. This one is very nicely textured. It has nice soft tone and loud tones and timbres.

I give it a two thumbs up!

I think too that this giga is made for weighted keys... its quite hard to get good dynamics on my non-weighted keyboard

I'm glad ya'll are liking this piano. It has served me well.

A couple questions. Does the self-extracting RAR file work on Macs? I know a couple people have Macs(myself included, but I have a PC also). Also, do I still need to upload the RAR file? If the self-extracting works for everyone, then great. If not, I can go ahead tonight and upload the regular RAR file. I also know that Spe3d said he had a .sit file there too. I know this works on both platforms(I have it on both of my computers). So does this cover everyone? I hope so. I'm really not happy with my Wireless Adapter card, and will have to use my laptop to upload.

I will be home late afternoon today, in a few hours. If anyone needs the regular RAR file, or Spe3d, if you want me to upload it, please post here or email me and that's the first thing I'll do.

If anyone else is having problems, please let one of us know. We want everyone to have this piano. And I know that Spe3d has been very generous in giving his server space and bandwidth. So the sooner everything is right, the less bandwidth we will take of his.

Double Post. Stupid computer.

Hi! Koolkeys,

I think now that the self extractor has been downloaded quite a few times, without errors (other than some antivirus picking up on the exe extension after the rar) and with the work around for that in place – this should cover everyone – even those without winRar installed.

So I now don’t think the non-exe version is needed.

The sit file I uploaded – but that got corrupt on upload – so I will re-upload if people request it – though it is a 500MB archive and as such takes me a long time to upload, so it wont appear instantly.

So the long and short of it is – there is a self-extracting archive – it works for all even if the computer does not have WinRar installed – if your anti virus detects the exe, just rename the file to mcgv2.exe (thank you M.M. de Jonge for that information it works a treat)

Have fun, if downloading gets real slow, just stop the download and try again later (I am fine tuning as I go with this)

Best regards,

Peter

Howdy. Wicked nice sample set! Way big; VSampler chokes when ever I try to load it -- anybody know of any free/cheap apps that'll read .gigs without having to load the whole damn thing at once?
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

SFZ+ in its early stages had the ability to read gig files – and play them from disk DFD.

So not only is it the best sound font player on the market – but the guys that purchased early got the bonus giga v2 support – But I don’t think if you purchase it now it has it – best thing to do is ask René in the rgc audio forum if SFZ+ can read giga 2 files or not.

But for sure this is the best free or otherwise piano I have used to date on the PC (using SFZ+) I can hear how well this has been recorded – it must have taken ages of painstaking micing and tuning to achieve – an excellent giga font – big thanks to matt for the piano font.

Where is the piano please? I just went to the auditorium and it says " Changing file location - please try again in A bit later". I checked yesterday and it said that as well. I am checking out this page: http://audioshots.com/auditorium/viewtopic.php?t=285

Thanks guys :)
Play it by ear

The answer will be "not in the released version".

Extreme Sample Converter is pretty cheap and I believe it supports .GIG and .SF2.

Are Mac users set also? Sorry, I just know that .exe can't be read on the mac. I know a couple Mac users asked for this.

Hi! Pheeleep,

That sounds like a refresh issue where the page is stored on your computer and shows you the content of that – rather than the fresh page that is there with the link to the file.

Best thing to do would be log in so the page shows, then hit the refresh button on your web browser, new page contents will then load.

It should work, let me know if not so I can check it out.

Best regards,

Peter

Both MacRar and Stuffit can read selfextracting .exe files made with WinRar or WinZip.

Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Thanks again KoolKeys for the piano and Spe3d for hosting.

I converted everything to Kontakt and works very well.

As far as the weighted keys are concerned, this is a layering issue. In Kontakt you can simply change the velocity sensitivity curve in the preferences. You can also change the velocity of the midi signal from most keyboards like Radium (etc). I usually do the later just a little because, being a guitarist, I have issues about slamming keys down for some strange reason. I find the action/result ratio a bit weak in other words.
