Well, as far as sequencing goes, i think Live is fantastic. The Clip view allows for realtime triggering of seperate patterns for any instrumental element leading to potentially more organic arrangements. I've heard of people having cpu issues with Live but i have a fairly state of the art PC and i'm not using VST instruments, just Reason for sound generation and Waves plugins for advanced effects and im not running into any problems,....yet. Good luck! 8)

i know live rather well and i am considering of switching to tracktion. so what i really wanna know is if i'm makin a good deal (talkin about switching to the upcoming tracktion 2, actually), or there are things live can do that t2 won't be able to?!

I used to use Live until version 4 was released. For me it is slow and buggy and very very CPU hungry. The MIDI implementation seems half hearted and it eats resources. Now, this is not everyone's issue I realise, but there are others like myself who find Live 4 to be a real drain.

Apart from that it is fresh, easy to use and has great potential. It's looping and clip functionality is excellent.

Now, I am also a new Tracktion user and I can tell you that without doubt it is one of the best pieces of sequencing software I have ever come across. The GUI is functional (much like Live is) and responsive. You will hear people complaining that it has no mixer. This is simply untrue. It has a very logical left to right mixing chain all on the one page and you can even do sends if you so desire.
Multi out VST instruments are handled by racks in Tracktion and racks can even be saved as templates meaning that you can make a multi FX unit out of a rack and load it any time you want.
It lacks good looping tools (it does have them, but it aint no Live) and not a great timestretch algo. This is worse in theory than practice to be honest. But Tracktion 2 still will not include better Timestretch. Although it may appear in a future release.

Live is a great sketchpad. It is addictive and fresh and it's parameter automation is second to none. Better than in Tracktion. But the current release is problematic for many users.

Tracktion is very elegant and solves some sequencing issues in a very simple and easy to understand way without clutter. It lets you get on with recording and composing. But it does lack the better looping and timestretching tools which Live has in buckets.

It all depends on how you wish to record and compose really. The are both fantastic in their own way and both have issues that may be solved in future upgrades. Right now, for me Tracktion 1.6 is the most stable and robust of the two.
