I was surprised to find out about this sequencer and it looks pretty cool. Messing around with the demo and have a couple of questions........

metronome? is this like sonar or n track where you need external hardware?

monitoring. I do not want to monitor my guitar/bass when recording.......just playback. The switch seems to come on EVERY time I record.

Also, I get errors when setting up tracks sometimes, and I just know I am doing something wrong but can't quite pin it down.

thanx much for replies...... :D

Post

this is a bit surprising.....are there any users out there?

Post

Metronome: Go to Setup/Preferences and click on the 'metronome' tab and you'll see a checkbox marked 'output to audio interface'. That's what you want.

I'm not sure about your monitoring question but I suggest you ask on the forum at http://www.zynewave.com
Frits the developer is very helpful along with others there. :)

I'm a big fan of Podium. I think quite a few people had been put off by the initial steep learning curve. However the setup has been simplified quite a bit in recent releases.

Post

Yeah, I think it is kinda a steep learning curve.

But the key for me is not to have "bloat ware" and to have stability. This seems to have both qualities.

I like tracktion......it's easy. But it has a terrible audio engine and is DULL DULL DULL in sound. I am getting the idea that people are very happy with the sound quality/flexibility of podium.

I will continue to play with ye ol' demo and yes, I am going to that forum as well.

yep, keep it up! it is one of the best, period!

eyeknow666, you might also wanna check out a Quick Start guide I wrote for people starting out with podium...

You're wrong. ;) There is no difference in sound from any other host. They all sum the same. In a recent thread, someone did the frequency cancellation test vs. another host and they cancelled perfectly. Make sure the master fader is set to fullscale instead of the default -3. :D

That said, Podium looks wicked-awesome. Surely if Tracktion hadn't come along, Podium is what I would have ended up with. Either program seem like equally powerful and awesome alternatives to the 'big ones'.

Nope, I hear a definate difference. I can't use t1 for audio tracks because it's so lifeless. It has nothing to do with volume.
Sorry

It did, thanks......I think I got it going good now......
I still don't know how (if you can) to turn off the monitoring perminantly (can't deal with the sound..ya know?) It' s better to just hear the sound without the monitoring.....
thanks !!!!!!!!!

No need to apologize, but it's unfortunate that you're placing the blame in the wrong place. ;)

But you describe it as a difference in volume. Everything you've said about the sound difference implies that it's a difference in volume :)

Podium rules though :)

i share my feet between different shoes :)
..anyway more than 2 :)

podium is one of those (also i use tracktion and energyXT) for studio-sequencing work

Post

Ok, l'll re address the audio thang.......then........let's move on......

What I hear with tracktion is a definate lack of "air" and definition after recording audio tracks.....especially in "sweet spot" frequencies. Particularly when combining tracks, all the definition is gone.

Now, with other programs (energyxt, sonar, flstudio, and now in podium....lot's of price points) the only real drawback is if you record a "bad" track in these programs.

I am sorry it came across as a volume thing. I HATE brickwall limiting and rarely have high volume......things just breath better that way.

Anyways........maybe it's only me who can hear it. I'll try using some spec analy and see if I can get it to show up........

Ok, back to podium. I am really getting into this. I know (eyeknow?) not to just jump in even though the price is definatly right.......but so far I'm feelin' it.....

Post

As a very early adopter, I can vouch for the stability and superbness of Podium. The setting up takes a bit of thinking about, but then so do most new packages, but once set up it's a very robust bit of kit.

Like lalo, I share it with other apps, for me it's NTrack, which I find to be a good workhorse: all depends on what I'm looking to do, and how I feel at the time as to which seq I'll use.

Anyway, gald to see more people checking it out!
