13-54  in standard tuning or droped? Who are you? SRV's son?

These amp-sim wars are every bit as tedious as listening to guitar-bores fighting about their all-tube, leather-bound amps that sound SO sweet with their genuine 70s tube screamer that Clapton once looked at. From a distance.

Points.

1. There is no such thing as a GOOD guitar sound. Whatever you like is what good. Totally subjective. Clapton makes/made utterly shit records with 'classic' gear, whereas Pere Ubu/Joy Division/Husker Du/Bill Frisell have made classic records with utterly unexciting gear.

You'd have to be a complete idiot to listen to 'She's lost control' and start moaning about the guitar-sound.

Maybe if you people tried concentrating on making good music rather than replicating the sound of Les Paul/Marshall for the 100000000000000000000000th time?

Just an idea.

2. Just like real amp-bores, mostly it's immaterial since the 'sounds' will never leave the bedroom.

I have tried lots of software guitar amp simulations (Amplitube, Guitar Rig, GreenMachine, Simulanalog.....)
But IMO CORTEX beats all of them (specially in HeavyAmp setting), in terms of clarity and bass response!
And what a nice idea the mix of different speaker simulations! You can really tune your sound in a very detailed and colorful way!

Your opinions?

Yannis
Welcome to KVR Yannis. Are you a friend of Simon (another KVRer from Thessaloniki) ?

About Cortex now. I 've only tried some previous version and I was impressed. However there are a few bugs but this plugin seems to have great potential. I prefer JCM900 (combined with some cab sims) but Cortex is my second best. Still trying to find something for clean to crunch tones (except for micing my amp of course). I think I have to try the latest Cortex version.

I agree about the music part (esp. She's lost control) but it's that simple. Don't know about other guitar players but I want something to record my guitars without making too much noise with my amp. I just want that something to sound and behave aproximately like an amp. That's all. Unfortunately most amp sims (soft or hard) have long way to go.

nah - originally I've been more of a bass-player so I'm used to 'heave gauge' strings (and I always loved to play chords on a bass-guitar)

I've got another (7string) guitar which has light gauge strings (9-50?) attached to it...

b.t.w.: I like playing heavy distorted stuff with this one (and it's indeed a standard tuning):

zeoy: No, I don't know Simon, but... you know.... KVR unites us! :) Greetings from Thessaloniki!

championrabbit: Well, I agree that music is above all- but hey, man, don't you want to make proper recordings? Don't you mess with effects, synths, sounds or whatever in order to record? If not, what are you doing in KVR? Anyway, I think that you are sick with all these guys doing NOTHING else but rave about guitar sounds... That's OK, I'm sick with them too. But, this doesn't mean than we don't search for a better sound... cheers!

...and man, I think even Sex Pistols CARED about their sound: they didn't want it ... polished!

it's a Godin Radiator - dead cheap although 'hand-crafted in U.S.A. from parts made in Canada' :D

- when I saw it in a shop-window I actually just had to try it because it looks so gorgeous but then I ended up spontaneously buying it - at first I just went for a quick f**k but then I fell in love  :hihi:

What is a 'proper' recording?

Does Beck make proper recordings? What about Orbital? Were the Joy Division recordings 'proper'? Or U2? Or Aphex Twin?

Do Godspeed You Black Emperor make proper recordings? Or Metallica?

See my point?

A 'proper' recording is a recording that makes somebody happy.

It has nothing to do with whether an amp sim sounds like a Marshall from the late 60s.

Bullshit.

I've mixed dozens of live rock bands. I don't care what type of guitar sound it is, but a "good" guitar sound will sit comfortably in the mix and sound great with minimal EQ, while a "bad" one either dissapears in the mix, or drowns out the rest of the band, unless I EQ the hell out of it..

 you need the proper tools for being to create the music you have in mind - for me a good guitar-amp is amongst those tools I need - for you it might be somethign else and to be honest I couldn't careless what you need to make music - but plsease tell me why do you make it your business what I need?

What are you doing in this thread anyway? :?
