What are people's favorite clean sounding native or non-native compressor VST/DXe? By this I mean:

-Linear Gain
-No saturation (analog or not)
-No phase smearing.

Or as close to that as possible.

For point 2) and 3) I guess Voxengo Elephant is pretty useable...
It's not a compressor but a limiter, but you can use it to compress audio, so...

I haven't used any of the commercial ones except the Kjaerhus GCO-1, so I'm not a reliable source...

I rather like George Yohng's W1 for transparent limiting, but I haven't found a very transparent compressor yet.

Chunkware's Vanilla Compressor is nice, but whenever I've used it I've consciously tried to get it to colour the sound, so I can't speak to its transparency.

Hmm. that must be the C3Multiband Compressor :D
Extreme clean and punchy sound :)

You can find it here:

If you want compression that you can not hear, one of the best is Sinus's Peak Compressor. You can get some pretty large gain increases with absolutely no coloration.

the cakewalk sonitus compressor is not too bad, I second Yohng compressor and KJaerhaus classic compressor and classic limiter arent bad either...

try voxengo polysquasher.

sony oxford for powercore - that's realy clean with all the sidecahin pseudo warmth expander and gate sorta stuff you could want

but its too damn expensive

i think i'm going to stop downloading demo's just to try them out because the credit card always ends up suffering

Post

I have to add my respect for the Voxengo Polysquasher....I havent had it long but I find this one to be very transparent

The compression algorithms in Quantum-FX are top notch. I think people forget about QFX because it's a bundle and a modular effects builder too... but the built in effects are really quite good. The compression and limiting algorithms are the highlights.

Try Voxengo's Soniformer

I tried the demo and was quite impressed with the clarity. lol, still haven't bought it yet though. just too broke right now.

Elemental Audio's Neodynium is the cleanest VST compressor I've come across yet, but it's not quite a stock compressor at first glance (though you can absolutely get it to behave that way by turning off the extra bands or "zones").
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Ditto.

It's worth it.

I'll second QuantumFX...I've always found their compressors pretty clear. And The Kjaerhus Classic comp seems pretty clean also. Form what experience I've had with the Waves ones, they seem pretty clean, although I'm sure you can get clarity at a far smaller cost elsewhere :?

Not that I'm a particular fan of clean compression - I prefer mine with character. :P

When the gain is completely linear, it ain't no comnpressor anymore.
