I've been trying various methods of making sweepy HF noise effects using different synths and filtering methods and have been a bit dissapointed with my results so I'm hoping to draw on some experience.

I've tried:
* Using the noise osc's in Pro53, Z3ta+, and Albino 2
* Using the inbuilt filters of the synths
* Using vst filters and automating Cutoff & Resonance.
* Using harmonic exciters to add upper harmonics (have tried before and after filter stages as well).

It could be that I'm going for a sound that my monitors won't reproduce... I've been known to expect too much in that way.

Does anyone have any tips for pulling this kind of effect off?

umm what exactly is a Silky smooth HF noise sweep fx? :shock:

Exactly that..

They're commonly known as 'noise' or 'sweep' fx using high frequencies (hence, HF). As in my desription... white noise oscillators filtered to make sweepy sounds.

By silky smooth, I was referring to the quality of the really high end though.

I'm just intereseted in hearing other peoples methods incase I'm missing something obvious.

Are you sure they arent using BP filters? Or comb even?

Iv used BP noise sweeps one millions of tunes, but i cant recall hearing a HP sweep. Give that a try and see if it helps.

What kind of music are you making btw?

Excellent - will give that a go thanks!

Ah, uplifting trance is my style. :)

Edit: (see, I knew it would be something really obvious!). I'm still interested in hearing what other use too though!
