I just can't do it... ok... I lack the technique and all... my ideas suck most of the time... I try very hard... the result is nothing... absolutely nothing... f**king spend hours and hours listening to something that will turn into nothing...how you guys do it is beyond me... and I respect everyone who can finish a song and call it his own... decided to be a dev one day... bombed big time.... I'm the alchemist who can turn anything with sound into shit...I have the utmost respect for all of you... all the musicians good or bad.. all the devs that put in countless hours of work into their art...some of you go as far as making real musical instruments that you can actually touch... how you guys do it is beyond me...I f**king love this website.. f**king drama queen... I piss me off... one day maybe I'll do a decent song that I'll be happy with.. wish me luck...and good luck to you all.

yeah your not alone, maybe we all feel like that? i know i do alot of the time. but then i make a song anyway that i like somehow. it just happens, i might be the only one that likes it but so what? im making music for fun and my enjoyment, even if i take it dead seriously. stop caring so much about what other might think of your stuff and make something that you like to listen too. if you like it chanses are someone else will.

that's how I feel right now. For me at least I seem to go through a cycle so I hope this complete block will pass in a week or two...

Everybody have this every once in a while. Some more often tan others. Even Madona, Clapton and Bon Jovi can usually not manage more than 10 original songs a year.

What saves most of those pros are playing with other people. They have sonwriters, producers and band who tell them what to do and then they do it.

I read a thing a while ago about the left hand and right hand sides of the brain. I'm not clever enough to remember which is which, but it does not matter. The one is creative and the other is technical. Your consious mode can only e in one at a time. The key is to recognise in which mode your brain is and with certain excersises it is possible to move into the other mode. Some people give this process a fancy name and call that "inspiration" or whatever fancy name they want. With practice you can switch pretty fast between the two modes.

I have heard your music, your ideas don't suck at all. Maybe it's time to re-evaluate your approach/philosophy of music. If what you have in mind doesn't fit your abilities, change what you have in mind. Music is for everyone, by everyone. Don't let anyone tell you it's an exclusive dominion. Ever. If someone says you sing out of tune, redefine the meaning of tune. Just learn to be consistent within any given structure. Music is more precious than a correct model, and should be available to anyone who so chooses.

Two things specific to your music: a) keep at something until your happy with it, let it sit a week then go back if you have to. But don't just drop it. You can't expect to get what you want just by willing it, so few of us have access to that facility; and b) feed off of the advice and skills of others. If someone makes a suggestion to alter the tempo of a section, or rethink your orchestration/timbre usage, give it a try and see what you come up with. They might be wrong, but the exercise might spark a new idea.

I think these feelings often come out of the desire to reach a certain station. We all get them, but think about why you want to make music. If it's just to accrue praise and recognition and wealth, than I'm afraid you're out of luck, but if it is out of a desire to participate and evaluate through art, then have at it, and ignore the expectations of others.

Get over yourself already. Quit seeking external sources of validation and approval for your music & have some confidence in yourself. You know you're talented, and that's constantly re-inforced here, so what's this really about?

LOL! At least you have a sense of humour and made me lough ! Post a tune or two in the caffe and let's have a listen, even a minute will do.

If you are spending hours and hours on a track: DON'T.

Give it a rest and come back to it the next day. Just start playing/editing,whatever, see what happens. I find that when I'm stuck witha tune, I need to get away from it for a while, and then comback to it. New ideas come and what seemed like a dead end is quickly deleted. It does work for me.

Impose discipline. Choose four sounds and compose !Just to take the piss.
Choose a drum machine and a synth. Nowthing else.

Another thing is, realise that even with all this technology we can't do every style of music successfuly. For xample, I would love to be able to produce a stomping/sexy house track, but whatever I do, it ends up too melodramatic and spaced out ! So I realise it's not my thing to make people dance. But that's not a loss, since I can't dance either !
