in the SOS review of the arturia minimoog softsynth there is mention that a real hardware mini filter-architecture decreases the resonance when playing lower frequencies, so the bass-frequencies become more apparent when playing lower tones.... is this also modelled into the minimonsta?kybernaut wrote:During my own comparisons between Minimax and the Minimonsta, I think I found the reason for this: Minmonsta's mixer saturates WAY more early than Minimax. Along with this comes a certain phase cancellation on the Minimonsta, especially when all mixer pots are set to maximum. Just back off the mixer levels and you have a more consistent bass response.Man-Machine wrote:Can you give us tips for getting more bass out the Monster or provide us with your own bass tweaked presets for us? I'm gonna try some of your settings when I come home tonight.
In general, Minimonsta behaves very differently when set to the same knob positions than Minimax. On the Monsta, the cutoff closes further, self-oscillation starts earlier and is louder, envelopes are faster (unfortunately they are not calculated at a high enough rate, so you can't really take advantage of its speed --> see my #6 example)...

I would say rather yes. Emphasis has definately more energy at higher frequencies. Only at full self-oscillation, Minimonsta behaves different to Minimax in this regard.olafmol wrote:in the SOS review of the arturia minimoog softsynth there is mention that a real hardware mini filter-architecture decreases the resonance when playing lower frequencies, so the bass-frequencies become more apparent when playing lower tones.... is this also modelled into the minimonsta?

I have to add that it's been a while that I played on a real Mini and I never really was aware of this behavior before reding about it in SoS magazine

If you match all the Filters, Ocillators and other controls the same for all three(factory presets), MiniMonsta will emulate the MiniMoog sounds better than the MMV. BUT....If allowed to tweak both the MMV and M:M further, I can ultimately get the MMV to sound closer IMO, although the MMV's knobs will not match the other two.
The final sound is more important to me than the knobs matching up. It's a trade off for sure.

I read on Arturia's forum that they are working on TAE to improve it, because of some critics. And some updates will come soon.
Maybe it would sound closer to originals synths as people wanted.

I sure hope they improve that CS80V filter because I really want to get it.GeeBee wrote:I read on Arturia's forum that they are working on TAE to improve it, because of some critics. And some updates will come soon.

Where on Arturia's forum did you read this? The only related topic I came across is on frequency modulation with the ARP2600V, which causes a slight detune. This is due to a "bug" in the TAE algorithms and will be fixed in a future update.GeeBee wrote:I read on Arturia's forum that they are working on TAE to improve it, because of some critics. It is quite a stretch to suggest from this that Arturia is working on an overall improvement of TAE.

Look at the "What I think Arturia needs right now" thread on the Free Speech section. Frederic Bruns, I think, mentioned that...

There is a MiniMoog in the music department at the college I am attending(computer science)that I fiddle around with and can compare with the MiniMoog V. I don't have access to a recording mechanism to record my fidgety playing unfortunately
.
Hows about this, these are very basic samples of the MiniMoog in it's raw form. I would be interested to see who can best emulate them on their virtual MiniMoog and post the sample results.
With the expertise present on this forum, the results would be very informative to a lot of folks. I for one, would appreciate it.

i don't think it's a matter of believing you to be dishonest; rather i imagine people are curious, as am i, to hear what you are hearing. you very clearly are a huge huge fan of arturia, which is cool. but having posted so much arturia boosting in threads about M:M and MMV, one begins to be interested in maybe a little bit of evidence
wow... i can really be irritating, can't i?

wow... i can really be irritating, can't i?well, i am gonna post this anyway.
Your irritations are based on my perference for the MMV period. I surely don't see you pressing anyone whom prefer's the M:M and have stated it over and over. That's what this board's for, giving input and preference on softsynths. Why you have a problem with that is beyond me.
If you read closer you'll see that I really didn't retract my personal opinion that it's better. I retracted a declaration of it sounding better to a more modest "My personal opinion it sounds better". Since is has been misinterpreted, I retract my retraction!
In regards to your exageration that I believe the MMV sounds better than the MiniMoog. Do you not believe that the MiniMonsta is capable of making certain sounds more interesting or desirable than good old MiniMoog? Please answer this.
Again, you don't really have a problem with the way I presented my opinions and the supposed retraction, what chaps your arse is that it is pro MMV.
Of course, this is all my opinion!
