10.4 bug?

I upgraded to 10.4 earlier today and an edit I was working on yesterday is giving me an error. Specifically, the drum loops I used are displaying 'error reading file' and if I try replacing the .wav with the same file (renamed to something very simple 'beat1.wav.' I get the following error:
Import: This file is stored on a networked or removable disk drive:
..do you want to make a local copy of the file before importing it?
What gives? It only appears to be this edit and these waves.

It'll copy it to the edit, then still not work.platinumears wrote:What happens if you say yes?braj wrote:..do you want to make a local copy of the file before importing it?
I've noticed it is doing this with all files.
One thing about the way I installed: I used 'firewire disk mode' and installed via a G5 at work onto my laptop's HD. My dvd drive on my lappie is a bit shot and I didn't trust it to install the OS. I'm guessing somehow Tracktion thinks my HD is a removable disk somehow and that's what's causing the issue. Logic and Live are fine. I've been networking with Excel, PowerPoint, Word all day and they didn't have any filepath errors.
So I guess my best bet would be to completely uninstall/reinstall T and see what happens. Can anyone give me uninstall instruction (for a real complete uninstall). You beta testers have to know this, right? Who beta tested the Mac version? BTW I tried deleting the plist but that didn't do it. I also repaired permissions.
Now I'm wishing I would have been more congenial around here and beta tested the Mac version myself (if they would have dug that). I totally would have tested this scenario

Well, interestingly, T1 isn't available for download anymore. I just realized that after trashing it in my quest to get rid of this issue. Maybe that means T2 is close. Of course, for a T1 owner wanting to reinstall it is kind of a pain.rpc9943 wrote:oh hahah i was like trying to see if they updated t1 or t2 demo or something.

Can anyone confirm their 10.4 installs don't do this with a 'normal' install? Really FW disk installs should be just the same as regular ones. I know there must be some geeky UNIX command to fix all this, or somethink in Netinfo Manager, but I'm not up to messing with it. Gotta hit the Mac forums tomorrow I guess, or hopefully Beno or Jules knows what's up with this. What a pain in the arse. I use this lappie for everything and I'm not willing right now to reinstall from scratch to fix this, T will have to be Windows only and that takes at least half it's value away for me
Aw, man. Crap crap crap.

Hmm, this is strange. I actually did a similar instalation test but not exactly the same, by installing Tiger onto a firewire drive. No problems there or with the install on my main disk that I just did. To do a complete uninstall just search "tracktion" and delete everything that comes up (empty your trash). Then just run Tracktion 2 for the first time. That will re-install it.
That method of instalation shouldn't cause any problems in theory but most importantly, what kind of install did you do on this drive? Upgrade, Clean, Archive Install? I've had a few archive install related issues with plug-ins that I'm still sorting out.
Since it is just happening with this edit, I would make a complete copy of the project folder so you have everythng backed up. And then let tracktion make its local copies with your now backed up project. See what happens.
Unfortunately, we couldn't do much tiger beta testing because none of our testers had tiger yet. Mackie of course has devoper access but we can't share that with external testers. We tested all the scenarios we could internally but we obviously couldn't do everything so there may be some growing pains as tiger related things pop up.

It's happening with everything
I can't use any audio loops at all because T thinks they are on another HD and trying to use a copy just puts it into a directory that T still thinks is a networked disk. Render does wotk though, and it appears older edits work fine (though I didn't have many). Essentially that one edit (which was the last I had worked in before installing 10.4) and any subsequent attempts to import audio trigger that error.
I did an upgrade, again everything else on my machine works just fine, T is the only think with any issues. It's like t still thinks I'm running the OS from the G5's CPU, and my laptop 's HD is only connected via FW.
I could have dealt with Office acting fishy, I would have expected that, but not Tracktion

I wish I had known, I'm an ADC member and could have been testing on Tiger for the last 6 monthsBeno wrote:Unfortunately, we couldn't do much tiger beta testing because none of our testers had tiger yet.
