Meffy wrote:Not galvanized either, though that's a good guess. It's a "hammered" finish -- and a very nicely done one, too.
I apply hammered finishes to real-world gear using special compounds made of two immiscible paints. When sprayed down, one pigment covers the surface while the other floats to the top and forms a network of slightly raised threadlike strands in a contrasting color. The low spaces between strands resemble dents in a metal surface that's been worked with a ball-peen hammer and anvil. A nice cheap way to get authentic retro looks for homemade schtuff. (Black or gray wrinkle varnish, as seen on microscopes and the like, is another great textured spray-on finish.)

The GIF export of Knobman is - eehm - unusable.xoxos wrote:i wanted to play too but my .gif export is naff - maybe it's just the windows picture and fax viewer. is there a plugin i need to make the .gif animation export akin to what i see here?
For normal use you would export as .png stitched strip.
For showing here you would need to switch export to single numbered BMP pics and then use GIF animator or Gimp to put them together as anim.

aha! very good - it's not me after all, that explains everything. thanks
(finish your bode!)
that reflective slider would be cake in povray
it's so easy to use and learn
i'm guessing you accomplished the reflection with masking/bounding and animated lines for the 'reflection'
it's wonderfully shaded.

just to "be all helpful," if you use POVray
edit quickres.ini by copying some of the resolutions and changing the aa coefficient.. larger for faster, i'm using .05.
