I've sort of managed to ignore this annoying hype thread until today. I mean, 69 pages of useless hype and no one has ever actually heard the plugin! Yeah, but it must be good because squids says so.

Must be a dubious KVR record of sorts. Congrats IK, you managed to create amazing amounts of buzz.

...buzz as in that annoying sound of bees or mosquitos when you'd rather sleep.

I do understand and can appreciate your frustration with the long wait. I had the same attitude as I was waiting for the long(long...LONG)-awaited Gigastudio 3 release. How long did it take for that to finally get released?

I am also waiting for the eventual release of the vaporware Akai VZ8 (a virtual sampler). I think I first heard about that piece of software in Jan, 2003.

.. well put.

i mean, its not that i am really angry here, or really frustrated.
how could i while AT1 still makes me happy and i never really heard a single tone of AT2?

the thing is though that marketing shnickshnack like this one is bad bad stuff:
announcing a plugin in january, using all conventions to blow the whizzleshizzle (namm, musikmesse, aes) .. and more than 10 months later not even a single audiodemo sees the light.

thats simply bad behaviour, and it needs to be said.

Funny, I just read:"thats simply bad behaviour, and it needs to be squids." What does that mean?!?! (No insult, Squids, that's really just what I read!) :D

"Vaporware (also spelled vapourware) is software or hardware which is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge, either with or without a protracted development cycle. The term implies deception, or at least a negligent degree of optimism; that is, it implies that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility." Wikipedia
"All day long, when I see you, I think of you no clothes, wa-wa-wee-wa, but is very wonderful."

Meanwhile.......

Where's that Logic-7-compatible version of Amplitube LE that was promised 5 months ago?

:(

I'm not crazy about software being announced far in advance of its release, but some of the stuff that's taken the longest to come out has turned out to be the most amazing. Look at GURU, for instance -- that took ages to come out, but it's impressive, innovative, and very usable. Well worth the wait, IMO.

The opposite tack would be to do as the Propellerheads do: to refuse to name even approximate dates, but just drop occasional hints as "teasers." Not surprisingly, many people dislike this approach too, and want to hear actual release dates.

Personally, I reckon ANY software -- including that which is already on the market -- is as good as vapor until it's actually installed on MY hard drive, cranking out waves or bashing them into shape. Until then, it's a matter of counting my chickens before they hatch. (Sometimes suspense and anticipation can even be enjoyable, sometimes not. Depends on my mood and such.)

Lastly, I'm a software developer (medical and radiology, not music) and know all too well the risks of announcing completion target dates while programming and other development chores are still under way. Sometimes things don't work out one way and I have to try another. Believe me, it's no more pleasant being "on the inside" when that happens! :-D

I guess my point is that marketing announcements are best taken with a grain of salt.

Now I've got to order that Amplitube 1 deal so I'll get the free AT2 whenever it comes out. As putte said, version 1 is pretty darned good already.

good luck on your wait my friend...see in the summer of 04 Akai was aquired by Numark...so far I believe they have dropped their entire pluggin line...we'll see if they develop more...even so it will still be Numark... :?

I was hoping to find information from anyone who attended the most recent tradeshows where A2 was demonstrated. I saw the video clip from the January 2005 show, been waiting since. It sounded ok, but isn't there anyone who saw and heard it recently, besides Squids?

re buying Amplitube - why does the download version cost 90 euros (€360)more than the boxed version (€269) does here? This just put a stop to my impulse buy
