Ah, interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. I have them all in the Factory directory, which unfortunately further complicates things, if I'm reading you correctly. Is there some advantage to symlinking them from the user directory as opposed to dumping them in the factory folder?aMUSEd wrote: Sun Dec 14, 2025 8:05 pm No there is 2 just the same:
Factory = '/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Absynth 6/Sounds'
User = '/Users/username/Documents/Native Instruments/User Content/Absynth 6/Sounds'
But the user content folder is the one not working properly so I am using the factory one for now but symlinking the preset folders from the Absynth 5 User Sounds location

I do not get why when it come to presets there aren't three locations for them on any OS? User, Factory, and Third party. This way the plugin does't overwrite third party plugins and your user library isn't filled with third party presets that are in essence to the end user, just like factory libraries.

I agree but it seems pretty much standard in most plugins and DAWS just to have user and factory (Serum 2 is the only exception I can think of). I guess the principle is based on the fact that factory locations are overwriteable by installers, user space is meant to be safe - whether that space contains addons made by the user or bought is beside the point from that perspective.

As Long as you can create subfolders the plugin can see, then inside "user" you can separate out third party.

Most of the great synths I use (Pigments, Diva, Repro...) are updated regularly since years with no upgrade fee. And don't have bugs.
I don't mind paying for something if I estimate the price is correlated to the amount of work.
What they did with Absynth 6 is a face rework, a compatibility update and some very tiny audio improvements. I must say I like the new GUI (the old one was, for me, not workable), but reading the various threads about this release (on gearspace or KVR) there are still a lot of issues : issues with 3d party libraries, audio clicks on some presets, not even compatible with Tahoe...
This is typical NI ! And looking at the past, I will only trust these issues will be fixed when I will actually see the updates (I don't trust NI anymore).
You never see these kind of issues with U-He for exemple (and recently with Arturia, that regularly offer great stable updates).
Everybody can estimate if the upgrade to Absynth 6 is worthing the price asked. I just give my opinion (and I know that being an Apple user, I'm this kind of guy : complaining about compatibility. I know that)

Changing a GUI entirely is a lot different than a skin, and as an Apple user you "should" be more forgiving if a company charges for updates that make plugins compatible with Mac OS. It's not just Mac OS, Absynth 5's interface is tiny on 1080p monitors even, plus VST3, plus new filters, plus new browser etc.Calagan wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 6:27 amKVR is not supposed to be a fan club.noiseboyuk wrote: Sun Dec 14, 2025 6:43 pmI'm sure making it work for recent machines was non-trivial, and they ultimately bit the bullet and did it right. Plus the reality is larger companies like IK, Arturia and NI are all the same in one respect, getting the package deal and upgrading at exactly the right time is the best way to save money. You never get a package deal from U-He, Fabfilter etc. that's anywhere near as cheap as what those companies offer, but you have to play the upgrade game if you want cheap.
IMO so it's more about the size of a company, whether they can leverage big constant sales, package deal like Komplete and intro prices etc. with big companies like NI VS a larger initial purchase price, few package deals, and rare sales with smaller outfits like U-He.

Fair enough but where is the package deal you're talking of? Absynth is not in Komplete and I think that's on purpose. Sorry but that is just greedy. I would consider the Komplete upgrade if Absynth was part of it but I'm not paying 99 bucks on a new skin and some audio improvements.machinesworking wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 7:32 amChanging a GUI entirely is a lot different than a skin, and as an Apple user you "should" be more forgiving if a company charges for updates that make plugins compatible with Mac OS. Also I don't get your point of large companies, why shouldn't they do intro sales? This also absolutely doesn't get into my head, why is there no intro deal? I'm sorry again but this all looks too suspicious to me. NI obviously knows that the hardcore Absynth fans were waiting for that UI upgrade and now they want their money. I'm not saying they should offer the upgrade for free (btw Serum to Serum 2 was a massive upgrade and also was free. Yes, small company, I know..) but come on: put it in Komplete or do it for 49 bucks and I'm fine. But that price is just ridiculous.

You obviously don't understand how Komplete works. Komplete includes products that came out prior to that version of Komplete. Absynth 6 came out well after the current Komplete, it will be in the next Komplete - not sure if regular or Ultimate/Collectors - probably sometime next year. If people want to buy products before they come out in the next version of Komplete then you pay for the single product. That is always how NI have done things with Komplete products.sunbroker wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 9:43 amFair enough but where is the package deal you're talking of? Thanks for the clarification! So it's just the nature of Komplete that it doesn't include the newest synth creations of NI, makes sense. Therefore it makes zero sense to buy Absynth as a stand-alone right now since the upgrade price is the same as for Komplete.aMUSEd wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 9:49 amYou obviously don't understand how Komplete works. It makes perfect sense to buy it for those of us who have missed it and are overjoyed to have a viable version again, or anyone who wants it and doesn't want to wait till the next version of Komplete.

Yo @aMUSEd et all - found a solution at least until there is something app side for specific presets slowing down scan - we simply reopened the problem ones in Absynth5 again, re-saved and now scanning is smooth.
Go figure, but works... loading and scanning is super fast. For our own stuff we simply now just replacing the zip with updated one with the resaved borked ones, I guess you gotta do it for any of your own or other third part stuff you find.
