i don't care about the pedal board. i don't even care if they impose ilok or another usb dongle. but if they think I'll shell out $250 for an upgrade they have to kidding themselves. that is pretty what I paid for it begin with. that price is 60% of list which is out of control for a upgrade price. by comparasion, the rest of then industry comes in at about 25-30% of list on major upgrades.

I can't believe you'd need confirmation, but I guess it's always nice to be absolutely sure. Especially considering that for $500, NI gives you some sort of hardware thing. While there's clearly a quality and functionality difference (well, "clearly" meaning from what we've been told), I guess some people would still be thinking in terms of NI's bundle.

It's at this point someone's supposed to say but it's a complete redesign, a masterful feat of engineering, the greatest thing since greatness began, there's even a mostly-naked girl to prove it._bp wrote:i don't care about the pedal board. i don't even care if they impose ilok or another usb dongle. but if they think I'll shell out $250 for an upgrade they have to kidding themselves. that is pretty what I paid for it begin with. that price is 60% of list which is out of control for a upgrade price. by comparasion, the rest of then industry comes in at about 25-30% of list on major upgrades.
But it won't be me. I have nothing against IK. Other than having previously tried and uninstalled their free stuff, I've had zero involvement with them. They might be lovely for all I know. But you're right, that upgrade price smacks of rip-off. Presumably its a reflection that they expect their core market to be existing customers, and presumbably that those customers are apt to spend gob loads of money on gear with little hesitation.
They're probably right. Out of all the musicians I know personally, the guitarists tend to spend the most money on gear.

does anybody know for sure that the upgrade price is $250 for v1 owners? I got that from their website but it wasn't really worded very clear. It just wouldn't make sense that a person that never bought v1 would be able to get both versions (with the free upgrade deal going on now) for about half what the typical "loyal customer" will have invested for v1 plus the upgrade to v2. Again, maybe (hopefully) it's just a misinderstanding.

If the demo ( maybe there won't be any demo?! ) prooves to be any good, I am buying AT1 for 240$ and upgrading for free
( I don't think I will even use AT1 at all, I hated the demo version )

Then that will lock me out. I will not use it. Ik MM will be off my shopping list.It didn't say it for sure, but Squid's reply was that it will be probably using a dongle protection.

It will not use Ilok but it may use syncrosoft protection. Something this powerful has to be securely protected.

You could buy a POD XT with all the model packs for under 500 dollars. You could probably even get a used XT Pro with all model packs for around 500 dollars. Why would software like this cost as much if not more than a hardware unit that does this?

I think that IKMM thinks that it's product is soooo good that it is worth even more than the hardware digital modelers with "inferior" DSP algorithms. I agree with one thing though. Not because it is binary code instead of hardware that it automatically means that it should be priced lower. If the quality of the amp simulation is that much better as squids sais, then it might be worth more than hardware emulation units. It is all about demand. If the product is flawless and sounds as good or better than the hardwar it emuates, then IKMM can indeed as for a higher price.

I'm a bit too lazy to start a new thread.. and then we our house guitarists around.. It's getting better here. A local music shop started stocking randall amps... how good is the RG50TC. I heard the hi gain channel (shredding), and the clean. And dint think it was bad.

No product is worth risking my system's stability. I don't care how good it sounds. Dongles have messed up computers too often for me to trust any library or software that requires their use!
And right on monkeymanx! Why, when I can get a hardware based simulator that won't put my system at risk.
