Incest is best. This is the one part I miss about moving from LA. I probably could have gotten this spin off gigs. My friend Zach Rae got the gig with Fiona Apple on keys. I bet I could have gotten that gig (and would have liked it too). But, I cut my hair and run a business now. Good for Zach though. I remember when he was still in school and didn't know what he wanted to do (except that like me he had a love for squirly tape-based keyboards). Patrick is a great guy. I took him to a Peter Gabriel concert once. He hated it. I love Pete but the whole flashy show thing with the muscle suit and telephone booth WAS a little much. I admit at that point I would have rather seen Tom Waits play a dingy upright piano too (which I imagined Patrick was thinking).SometimesNothing wrote:Patrick plays on some of Michael's album, but he wasn't the only keyboard player involved. My guess is that he's got a lot of other session work, so Michael had to get some other people on keys (he plays a bunch himself too). Patrick is working a lot with Joe Henry on various projects. I think he's still playing with Sam Phillips too.
Did I ever tell you guys the story about Jack Black? This was before Tenacious D and before he did all of these movies like Shallow Hal etc. He had only done a few things like the Cable Guy at the time. I went to see Jon Brion play at Cafe Largo during a NAMM years ago and he was there talking to Adam (one of my partners in SR at the time) and I heard Adam say "you look famliliar, have we met before?" and then a few moments later I chimed in with "yeah, you look familliar to me too" and then Adam wispered to me "Cable Guy" and I looked at Adam and said "What???" and he said "He was in the Cable Guy" and then I said "ohhhhhhh". Then he asked us if we wanted to be in his band (not even knowing us). I could have been Tenacious DK.
You gotta love LA for finding that side of things (as opposed to the OTHER side which is the American Idol side
