Hi
I had M-Tron (small version), sold it. I regret it now. However: there are
now two contenders, M-Tron Big Pack and yours Tron-Collection.
As I'm a big fan of Jon Brion the Squids Tron C. might be a better choice.
So, what's on the bonus CDs (roughly), are they still available (seems so, looking at esoundz), is there going to be TC v2 soon (and possible GB for both)?
Thanks for listening/reading.

One of the bonuses is a sample of Jon's folding pump organ. I borrowed it from him when I did a session for T Bone Burnette and Sam Phillips for her Martinis and Bikinis album. I played it on a few tracks at Oceanway and then sampled it because... well, that is what I do! I SAMPLE EVERYTHING!!!!! mwaaaahhahahaa.soulata wrote:Hi

On the Squids Tron vol. 2 there will be a lot other bonus stuff including instruments that belong to Jon and also Roger Manning of Jellyfish (actually the instruments used to belong to me like the Rheem Keebass or other funky stuff). Also some samples of Zac Rae's Chamberlin (keyboardist for Alanis and also Fiona now).
On Squids Tron there is also some samples of Mellotron masters sampled through a 3-track Ampex tube machine (doesn't get any more rare than this!) which was done at Michael Penn's studio with Patrick Warren's help. They had the machine because they got it from Richard Chamberlin. SADLY they got rid of it because I would have bought it. Oh well. So, this is it! As rare as it gets. Vol. 2 will be even MORE rare. Some Optigan masters on there plus some other goodies.
Maybe we'll even do a group buy on it again. Perhaps in the next month or so! Let's see. If there is interest then... why not?

There is interest here.
I actually kicked myself for passing on the first Tron GB, and was glad you offered it again.
I'm a Sampletank user, but I'm wondering if you will make the second version available in multi formats, like you did the World Sounds GB. The multi format helped to bring in a variety of different people into the GB.
Speaking of vintage sounds,,, have you ever sampled a Hohner String Ensemble?? It had a rather unique tone, and was featured on a few Supertramp recordings in the late 70's. One song that comes to mind was Fools Overture, from the Even in the Quietest moments LP.

That was an Arp String Ensemble. Yeah, I think I will make Squids Tron Vol. 2 Group Buy have some killer bonuses for hitting higher numbers just if we can see the real sound collectors come out to get it. Some string machines perhaps and also maybe some really rare instruments like the Novachord or Clavioline. This sounds like fun. Perhaps it is different enough to do back to back after the Studio ProFiles one. I don't to burn anyone out on esoundz GBs. But, if it was really wanted we could possibly step this one up for March. Are ya ready or should we wait?
We can do Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 in multiple formats. What formats are requested by you guys? Just curious.

Of course! They were awesome. I am friends with those guys. We sampled Roger Manning and Lyle Workman. I've never sampled Andy but he uses our sounds. I don't know Jason although I've met him a few times. I really like his solo albums.seamoss wrote:hey squids, you a jellyfish fan?
I friggin love that band.
I was actually working down the hall in Oceanway when Jack Joselph Puig was mixing Spilt Milk. He called me into the studio to have a listen. Imagine hearing "All is Forgiven" at FULL BLAST on some massive studio monitors right off of the console! I couldn't believe it. Sounded like QUEEN on acid!
It is a shame they broke up. I am trying to do a tune with Andy just for the fun of it. I'll let you know how that works out. We have a company band called "Sonik Elementz" and I want Andy to guest on a track. A cover tune. Very Jelly! I'll also do one with Roger too... but mixing them together without them knowing would probably piss them off so they'll have to be separate. I want to get Roger to do some Brian Wilson Beach Boys cover with the Elementz. That'd be cool huh?

wow....that would have been unbelievable. kind of surreal just hearing about it from you.Squids wrote:I was actually working down the hall in Oceanway when Jack Joselph Puig was mixing Spilt Milk. yes, it is. I just recently read their bio on Rogers website and I never really knew the real story. Well, I am sure the bio on his page isn't the "real" story but it was still more than I ever knew. I always felt like they were going to be the "next big thing" but it never happened. I guess it's good in a sense because I can still listen to their cds and enjoy them just like I used to back in the 90's, without having that burned out feeling like you do with a lot of the mainstream stuff. I would have loved to have heard more stuff from them, though. It is a shame they broke up.
Seems Roger has kept busy - Air.... Beck....and I heard Jason was on tour with Paul McCartney, eh?
yeah, that would be really cool. Let me ask you - about two or three years ago I heard a couple of tracks off the interent that was suppose to be Andy but it sounded nothing like him. It actually sounded very country. Do you know anything about that?I am trying to do a tune with Andy just for the fun of it. I'll let you know how that works out. Eh, I hope I don't sound too negative, but I'd love it to be a bit later than March. I'm very short on money as of now but I'd love to get that GB. Anyway, you do what you do and I will accept everythingSquids wrote:...But, if it was really wanted we could possibly step this one up for March. Are ya ready or should we wait?

A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...

A good friend of mine named John Fields (producer of Switchfoot) talks to Andy all the time. I haven't talked to Andy in a while. I asked John to ask Andy if he'd sing on a cover tune I was working on and he said he could be pursuaded or something like that. I talked to him over a year ago and he was working on a solo album but he doesn't seem all that motivated. He does a lot of music in Japan though. It is possible he's doing some country tunes as well (or maybe that's what that is).
Roger has a solo album out. I talk to Roger every once in a while. We might do a Studio ProFile with him actually (so you can have him singing and playing keyboards on YOUR tunes
). If you don't know about Studio ProFiles then check this out: http://www.studioprofiles.com
Hmmm. Come to think of it, a drum Studio ProFile with Andy would actually be pretty wicked! He's a GREAT drummer. Maybe I could get Jack to engineer it over at Oceanway. Hmmmm. I wasn't thinking of that but it could be cool!
We've been samping some of these musician's instruments for years (sometimes don't even say anything). For instance, on Squids Tron Vol. 1, Vintage Timetraveler, American Heartland, Sonik Synth 2, Sonic Refills and a variety of Sonic Reality products there are sounds from the specific instruments either owned or used on albums by artists like: Crowded House, Pink Floyd, Jellyfish, Grays/Jon Brion, U2, Joni Mitchel, 3 Dog Night, Larry Carlton, Tom Petty, Tom Waits, Supertramp, Moody Blues, Beach Boys, Sam Phillips, Amie Mann (I worked on the Whatever album with Jon), Ringo Starr (ironically I worked on a Ringo album with Mark Hart, Phil Ramone and Mark Hudson and didn't even know Roger and Andy had a cut or two on it), Frank Zappa, L Shankar, Kevin Gilbert, Keith Emerson, Patrick Moraz, Lyle Workman, Toss Panos... and now on Studio ProFiles not only do we have the instruments but also the artist playing sessions that you can use. Guys like Nick D'Virgilio, Danny Gottlieb, Jerry Marotta, Ed Greene, John Blackwell and that's just drummers. Wait until you see what other musicians we have lined up!
Before we didn't really involve the musicians, it was more of just circumstances or favors from friends (like, "can I sample your guitar collection? Rare keyboard? Drum kit?"). Then we didn't use much of that in the marketing because we were focusing on the instrument sounds themselves. But, since we've done so much of that over the years it is fun to really involve the artist in the product at levels that have never been offered before. It really is like having them do sessions for your music. Well, almost. The closest thing most people are gonna get!
Sound like fun?

Chances are we'll continue to offer it afterward since Vol. 1 was in such demand that we had to bring it back. So, either way you won't miss it. Maybe you'll miss a super low price if the group number went really high but that's about it. Probably miss a little bit of swag too. Well, maybe we'll wait. Like I said, it all depends on your guys. How bad you want it and whether you need a breather from the last group buy or not.DotNoir wrote:Eh, I hope I don't sound too negative, but I'd love it to be a bit later than March. Wow! How freaky is this: I was just listening to Spilt Milk when I checked in on this thread!

I think that's one of the best mixed and mastered albums, period. Not squahed at all, and the separation and definition of instruments is terrific. It's actually one I use for reference when setting up PA's, monitors, etc.
Too funny!

Jack Joselph is brilliant. He also mixed the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris which I think sounds awesome. The Grays album which sounds great. He's got this rare Focusrite console with a TON (and I mean a TON) of really obscure and rare Tube outboard gear.... plus Fairchilds, Altecs, Pultecs etc.mlyon wrote:Wow! He has a permanent space over at Oceanway which is one of the best studios around. I've worked in Studio D with T Bone and other people. That has one of the best drum rooms (besides Kevin's old studio in Pasadena where we recorded Nick D's ProFile... that is a secret room that only people like Bill Botrell know about). We'll record someone's Studio ProFile over at Oceanway. Hard to get in there though because it is booked pretty heavily (and of course not cheap either).
You guys have unleashed the Squids esoteric name dropping!

The stories are always cool.

I completely agree about JJP. He's really got a genius to him (well, and fantastic equipment doesn't hurt either). There was a pretty good article about him in EQ a while back. The cover made him look exactly like Snape (Alan Rickman) holding a couple of egg beaters.

This sounds too cool!! I love all these classic instruments. I may have been mistaken about the actual String Ensemble that was used on Fools Overture, but I know for sure that Hohner did make a string ensemble that Supertramp used,,, I know cause had one... but it sort of got lost in the shuffle over the years.
Does anyone know what mellotron sounds King Crimson used on Court of the Crimson King??? The Wall, on which the prophets wrote, is Cracking, at the seems,,, Upon the instruments of Death, the sunlight, brightly gleems,,, where every man,,,, is torn, apart,,, with nightmares,,,, and with dreams,,, will no one lay, the laurel wreath,,, when silence,, drowns the screams??? Confusion,,, will be my epitaph,,,, as I walk, a cracked and broken path,,,, wow,,, sends chills up my spine......
Format Requests for the new GB,,,, Sampletank, Reason, Kontakt, and SFZ. It would be really cool if you could do SFZ for Dimension users.
