In the mean time I'm also trying to get better graphics. So, hopefully this tradition - to put down Voxengo products due to its visual look will fade away. Maybe they'll traditionally start to persuade Kjaerhus on this matter after that?
The Voxengo GUIs are perfect as far as I'm concerned. Any extra gloss would put me off.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Well, I have to say that there's always been something about most Voxengo plugins that dissuade me from using them, and maybe it's some of the specific stuff that pdxindy said, maybe it's a matter of taste.
I do know I thought the Analogflux Suite was a vast improvement over the standard beige'n'dials look. It has relief, contrast, colour and a even a break from Verdana and that bubbly 1982 font! I was hoping they were going to develop that as a new look and feel, but alas, no. I don't think their plugins look bad, they're just kind of 80% there; they look like drafts. I'd love to see a graphic designer take a final pass at them.
That being said, they do have their own look, I'm glad people are happy with them, and I congragulate and thank Aleksey for all his hard work. I can't finish a website, let alone code and skin a full line of revolutionary plug-ins! Don't listen to me.

Did you even bother to think about it before posting?orangesuite wrote:who the f**k cares about the gui? if its functional then who gives a f**k about how embossed or 'real' it looks? would you go to another mechanic if his spanners had the wrong font on them? jesus f**king christ.,
[the rest is general stuff, not addressing you directly]
Yes, they are functional, but they could be better, as in more functional and clearer. And it wouldn't even need that much work.
There's a few 'niggles' in there that could be changed without radically altering anything and yet simultaneously improving the overall legibility. The change doesn't need to be a total overhaul and it especially doesn't have to be a change to appeal to those folks for whom shiny, glossy, realistic, "hardware looking", sexy 3D, fake-wooden-ends/fake-rack-ends are what make a plugin look good.
Come to think of it, why babble about it on forums, perhaps a few mockups sent to Aleksey would be in order...
Now available with added Inherently Suspect Justification!

I'll just chime in that a really don't understand the fuss over the GUIs. They are unorthodox in comparison to anything else, because there's nothing else, but pure functionality. No messing around with designer bullshit, blue leds and wood sides, to distract unlearned ears away from the sound.
Even the colors are unobtrusive, and nothing is blurry or difficult to read.
Rather utilitarian usability than fashionable designer tricks.
(for the record, I used to have a problem with voxengo GUIs up to the point when I realised how graphics can have a placebo influence)

If graphics have a placebo influence, then surely these ones do too, in which case you are still living in a placebo world...Kingston wrote: for the record, I used to have a problem with voxengo GUIs up to the point when I realised how graphics can have a placebo influence
BTW, I think the voxengo GUI's are just great- truly amongst my favourites because of their straight-forward functional approach.

...for further observations,
it's a credit to Aleksey how stubbornly he has stuck to the same rather controversial GUI theme, despite the continuing whine about the utilitarion looks.
With chuckles I await for the time if he comes up with fashionable designer GUIs. The exponentionally increased commentary on the "improved analog warmth" will be a sight to see.
The sad fact is that the plugins will actually sell more just because of such idiocy.

Eh? Did I say they have a placebo influence on me? I used to live in that world long a go, until I learned to listen more analytically, and stopped looking at the GUI graphics - kind of became aware of the cause and effect.pw wrote:If graphics have a placebo influence, then surely these ones do too, in which case you are still living in a placebo world...

I guess I thought that the 'I' you refered to a number of times (eg- 'I used to have a problem with voxengo GUIs up to the point when I realised how graphics can have a placebo influence') suggested that the observations where subjectiveKingston wrote:Eh? I'm sure you've read enough KVR to realise one does not have to rely on simple subjective observations with this (in my case I just happen to have personal experience with this). IE, good designer looks seem to have an obvious influence on the perceived sound for far too many people. And one can exploit that fact to sell more.pw wrote:suggested that the observations where subjective

So Kingston: you're saying the "placebo effect" is that people will buy more of a plugin that looks sexy over a more drab plugin, whether it's actually the better plugin or not? You know this to be true? (not being contrary, just curious).

You only need to scroll back this very thread for *several* examples.bduffy wrote:So Kingston: you're saying the "placebo effect" is that people will buy more of a plugin that looks sexy over a more drab plugin, whether it's actually the better plugin or not? It would in fact be a *very* interesting experiment (and an eye opener for many) if a single, say compressor or an EQ algorithm would be released under a different name with utilitarian looks, and as another one claiming vintage modelling and spiffy looking fashion GUI.
Make your own deductions on what people will comment on the sound of those two.
