Look, Moka...

We're all wildly impressed and are all obviously falling prostrate to your immense bass-a-makin' skills.

However...

Please do your worthy followers (and me and bduffy, too ;) ) a favor: while we're blown away by more and more videos and mp3's, could you maybe, just maybe, please kind sir, use that energy to put something out that WE could use - and happily pay you for, too?

;) Now don't take this wrong, but we alredy "get it". Your bass plug is like KISS - either you get it (them) or you don't. (Those that don't won't Rock and Roll All Nite no matter how good your plug so they'll have to sit in the nosebleed section and dream a little...or a lot!)

Just kidding.

And total apologies to those who don't get KISS - you might want to get that looked at!

Hi hi, very nice post!

Yes, you're right: enough mp3 and videos for now.
I don't know who I was really trying to prove anything to: you all or myself...
I'm not sure perfectionism is declared as a mental illness, but if it is, I'm affraid I kinda suffer from it a bit
Also I'm as lonely as possible in China and work really alone on this plugin. So I sometime need some feedback to go further; you all fuelled my fire; thanks a lot! I really needed it.

And "actually working on it" requires more energy and involvment than making mp3 demos, as you can imagine.

I also have some other priorities that slow things down a bit, but you proved me there is some room for this plugoin, so I'll do my best to make it go faster and concrete.

As you guessed this plugin won't be free so I can't spread a playable beta or demo just like this. I'll think about it though.
SARcazm wrote:BTW, will you have a Ricky emulation in the bass package?
Probably; the way it works theorically allow me to add any bass as a preset quite easily. Then, will it really sound like a rick is another question, but I guess the rick preset should be closer to a rick than to a J or P.

Another mp3 I HAD to do:
the cover of the tune that gave me the current name for my plugin:

"Dark Lady" from DJ Food.

> Dark Lady cover.mp3 <

You can hear at the beginning that I had fun simulating a studio ambience with bass player and drummer tuning their instruments.
So you can hear how the bass reacts to fast playing, slides, and a short muted attack.

As usual, during the actual track playing, I tweaked the pickups and pick positions.

holy shit mokafix, release it already! it's a bomb! what are you waiting for??

Thanks guys, I hope you won't be disapointed.

Did that last sunday:

That's a tough test, I think cause it is a clean track, and it is easy for a plugin to suck badly.
FXs are only some Gsuite amps, and kjaerhus classic mastering and reverb, as far as I remember.

It's 4 times the beggining of that classic tune from Clapton.
Each time with differently set instruments.
panned right: basses =
Jazz, S / precis, S (Z pickup) / Iban, HH / custom slapped HH
panned left: guitars =
start bridge+mid, SS / strat mid+neck, SS / LP bridge, H / LP neck. H
The differences are just in pickups positions in fact; they are set from jpg pictures found on the net ;-)

BTW, I hesitated before posting that due to copyright and all.
But I can see numbers of covers along youtube, so I don't know what to think...
I guess that once this plugin becomes commercial it will be another story, but for now, is it ok or not?

Also, I remember someone asked for humbucker bridge sounds for metal. Well, you can hear a bridge Humbucker here, but I wanted to know: can you really hear the difference between pickups type and position through heavy distos? Cause I made some tests, and really did not hear much difference when moving the pickups or switching them, while the differences are obvious with clean signal.

I'm getting close to the end...

WOW!! :-o

Can't wait to use this thing, Mokafix! I don't think you have to worry about the copyright unless you're selling or broadcasting it.

Ok, so I guess it's ok if I post this one too?

> Jelly Belly cover.mp3 <

Less of a technical show off, as you can't hear the pickups or that kind of stuff, but quite fun.
Guitars and bass are all tuned in C#G#C#F#; don't know if you can hear it...
The bass fit nicely in the background (easier to hear than in the original song :hihi: ), I think, and the guitars are quite convincing through distortion.
And as the Smashing Punmpkins are making a come back...

I wish I could write my own tunes, but you can't beat Clapton or the SP.

Post

yeh it does sound ok through distortion.....what distortortion is it it btw?
the expression isnt much there though....I cant hear the attack(the chunk when u hit the chords)....also throwin some palm mutes in there would help that demo mp3.

Post

the distos are gsuite amps and distos (sometimes I even had to put 2 disto or even 2 amps ;-))
the drum is addictive drum demo, and the other FX are all Kjaerhus classic ones (reverb and some chorus on guitars).
And for that "chunk", yes, it is actually missing.

I did not spend too much time on it. I just tried to assign the notes to the right strings.

I wanted to demo the bass mainly, as former demos where basslines rather than songs. Those two ones let you hear the bass playing more standard bass tracks.

The guitar still need work, and mainly beause of what you call "chunk", that I call twang...
I think I know where it comes from, but reproducing it is quite tricky.

Post

Are these demos (Dark Lady, Jellybelly, Blur Jets) played on a keyboard, or a midi guitar?
They really do sound great.
The slides and sound variations are very convincing.

Is GSuite the simulanalog suite?

Post

The lead guitar lines were pretty convincing, as were some of the bends, otherwise it sounds pretty much like Slayer, which doesn't sound much like a guitar :p
not saying its not good or anything, just not very convincing.

also, the bass sounds great!

Post

Which track are you talking about?

If you can make "crossroads" sound like that with slayer, I'd be very curious to hear it!!!
Even with revitar it would not.
And try to tune slayer and revitar in C#G#C#F#...

If you mean the disto guitars on Jelly Belly, you got to take into account the distos themselves, and my programming.
I mean on crossroads you can really judge the guitar (which I admit lacks some twangyness in the attack).
On Jelly Belly, you can also blame the FX or more likely my unskilled programming ;-)
But I'm sure that with something like amplitube or guitar rig, it would be much better.

Comparing this to slayer is almost an insult.
I think you either did not listen carefully or did not play with slayer since a long time...
But I respect your opinion. I understand it won't suit everyone's taste. Anyway, I'm glad you like the bass!

@ P.T:

They are sequenced in Reaper (which allow you to choose the channels per notes, which is great)
But it can be played on a keyboard too, as there is a live mode where it automatically choose the string depending on the hand position on the neck, and of course with a midi guitar, in mutlichannels mode.
So for instance, if you have a guitar or bass track and don't want to spend extra editing time to send the notes to the correct strings, using the live mode and editing automation for the hand should work.
Oh, and yes, Gsuite is Guitar Suite from simulanalog.

Post

Its not an insult!
I love your other plugs, and I can tell you really put your all into them, so I would never insult you!
:D

My critique (i am making it sound fancy now :D) is that your guitar synth suffers the same problem as most guitar SYNTHS, ie : it sounds like what it is.

The lack of "attack" is one of those problems.Another I think is how too perfect some of it seems.

Think of a EZDrummer or dfH. Most of these drum plugs sound realistic because they not only take velocity into account, they remember one important rule - variety. In real life, you get a variety of sounds and tones from one plucked guitar string on the same note, same fret, same velocity, etc, just because something else might have changed (how fast you play, how you hold the body, are you sitting, standing, etc etc etc)

To synthesize that is next to impossible :p

But when I get a shot, i'll give your synth a fair chance. :) don't think i'm writing it off yet. i'm just sketchy.

and impatiently awaiting RealStrat :p
