A small thing: When I close down the standalone version of the beta it makes a click in my speakers. Don't happen with any other standalone synth I've got.

I know! It's just that there are 4 machines I can test on and I hate to retype all that stuff.

Snow Leopard 10.6.8/Pro Tools 8.0.5/Digi 002R

OK here is another I can reproduce:

Open the VSTi (tested here in energy-xt2) go to OSC1 choose wavetable and change the waveform to sawish (or another).
Then close the GUI open it again go to OSC1 -> the waveform is sine and isn't updated correctly anymore...

It's only a display issue because you still here the right waveform...

I just found out from M-Audio that there are NO drivers yet for my Radium61 controller that work with a 64-bit machine. So that is going to put a bit of a damper on testing on this AMD Athlon hp Pavilion machine. RATS! I know version 1 didn't have one in keeping with the Alien -like look but now I'm wondering if having a keyboard on the GUI wouldn't be such a bad thing. :!: Maybe one that you can open and close!? What do you think, Bulent? :?:

Hey folks, I have a general question to all of you: What is it that SynthMaster's missing in terms of features that synths like Largo has? Everyone is raving about Largo nowadays, and I just cant understand why... Could anyone explain to me ?

I know we dont have enough content (presets, skins, videos, etc...) to show off SynthMaster 2.0 -yet-, but I still believe technically it is a very strong product at the right price (1/5th of Largo!)

Thanks!

I haven't got a clue but I was one among the winners in yesterday's competition by Rob Papen and all we had to do was list software synths with filters that self resonate when all oscillators are turned completely down. He considers it quite cool feature and therefore mentions it in the feature description of Predator here:

http://www.robpapen.com/latest/predator-1.5.5.html

So if not possible with SynthMaster 2 maybe you could spend it a thought. Not that I use it that often but you can get quite nasty with such a thing. :)

well havent tried largo, but the Waldorf plugs are quite famous for their sound.

but dont make synthmaster a largo wannabee, synthmaster is already a nice massive plug

so the trick is to make it unique and dont make it a "clone"of other plug-ns :D

Post

The most important thing for the big initial hype I think is the reputation a name like "Waldorf" has. They are for example well known for very good filters.
But this doesn't mean other synths don't.

I think the feature set you have is very good (perhaps a little bit more options on the effects side) and you don't have to compare to others.

I think that, when the remaining little "bugs" have been sorted and a perhaps a more "characteristic" GUI is designed (haptik is very important for quite a lot of people), there is no reason to hide behind other "big" synths.

There is still work to do but it's already a great synth.

Thanks KV331

Do you know what the parameter count be if I added 2 more layers :)

Right now we have 3797 parameters, with 2 more layers, that'd be:

3797+1535*2 => 6867 :o

Well, I'm not going to do a feature for feature rundown, but Largo has a very nice "bright" presence without being harsh. It's like the filters start to distort when over driven but in a pleasant way. This is where most soft synth go wrong. They do fine when operating in the "normal" range, but start to fail when emulating things being pushed beyond NOR.

Now, I haven't had a lot of time with the new Synthmaster or Largo, but these are my initial feelings. Massive gets this very wrong and ends up sounding harsh and ugly to me. Olga (in the VA world) gets this very right. Sylenth1 is good at it too. Zebra does a decent job, but it's not the best.

Actually, I talked to a real cool GUI designer here on KVR (TSVDesign), and he's gonna do the initial skin.

Of course, other skins/interfaces will follow as well. That's what the GUI designer is for  Our own gfx artist, Umut Dervis, will hopefuly create real cool looking interfaces for us in the coming months.

Looking forward to the skins.
Also TSV working on a skin sounds fantastic.

It's not only skins: With SynthMaster we'll have multiple "interfaces", i.e. a "Moog" interface where controls are layed out like a Moog, and the "interface" has its own initial preset such that the routings, setting etc are set accordingly when you initialize that "interface"

Hey guys, we have a new release: 1.9.9.6

In this release we have 2 fixes:

1. FIXED: changing buffer size after setting engine quality to 2x corrupt audio output.
2. FIXED: Names of binaries for v2.0 are now : SynthMaster2.exe, SynthMaster2.dll. this should allow side by side running with v1.0

It's 2:19 AM on this side of the world, so I gotto go now :)
