Jbravo,
thanks for the Skin. Really nice paintjob :)
I am sure it makes Rapture sound better :D

I think this would be you're an idiot if you don't buy this sale - okay, we'll call it a no-brainer. If you know what you're doing, you can make Rapture sing. TBH, I've always preferred the fx on Rapture to Z3ta. The reverb at least. I don't know why but the reverb on Z3ta can sound tinny.
Installing on Win 7 was quite frightening, and it crashes a lot, but definitely get the expansion presets as well as Muzeum. (Viral Outbreak is pretty nice also)

Compyfox wrote:So, can I use custom (custom length) WAV samples as OSC with DimPro now or not? Or are they really limited to one cycle and they need to be converted to SFZ first?

From this website: http://dimension.technetos.com/tutorial ... esis.shtml

There are two ways for Dimension to treat a wave sample as an oscillator:
•Direct-loading: Any wave file that contains less than 3000 samples will automatically be treated as an oscillator waveform.
•SFZ Directives: An sfz text file can have a wave file specified with the oscillator=on directive enabled which forces Dimension Pro to treat the wave sample as an oscillator waveform. This is the required method if the wave file has more than 3000 samples, otherwise it will be treated as regular sample playback instead of as an oscillator waveform.

Anyone have info on how to install content to a different drive?

Post

It really does like to plop onto C doesn't it?

Not sure there is anything that can be done about that

I've noticed other non-cakewalk products doing that too.. it will ask where you want to install.. point the installer to D or E partitions.. it installs the dll and image files there AND then goes and installs a bunch of files on C anyways!! :dog:

With DimensionPro it's an option in the setup.

With Rapture, you can use your "different drive" as the setup location (as opposed to the VST directory).
You can also search for it in the registry and change it there (that's what I did). It's called Content Directory if I remember correctly. In this case, just move all the content of the install directory to that new location.

Cheers,

Tom

That is what I thought about Z3ta+ version 2 when it was released.. after buying and then trying it, I wanted my money back. :hihi:

It seems that cakewalk doesn't have many novel ideas when it comes to synths.. That is, I get the feeling cakewalk rode on the back of Rene' for the longest time instead of diversifying their programmers (that is having more than one doing the engine building). As a result, they all pretty much sound the same (and all wavetable based to boot).. if you like that, then cakewalk has a lot of products you will like. If you do not like that, then cakewalk has few products you will like.

I like what Image line did in having a few different designers building their various synths.. Synapse guys (at one time).. Maxx Claster.. Gol.. etc

If you don't care for one Image Line synth.. we'll try another.. they all sound different.

Smart on their part in that they both offloaded some of their work.. and have multiple products with multiple designers (and thus sound signatures)..

Hello,
I'm not sure if it was asked before or if I'm in the right thread, but since there is this crazy sale from Cakewalk, now Pentagon is also at 19.99€, what do people think about Pentagon II ? I would like to know :)

I took Rapture almost instantly because I've heard it at a friend's home and liked it. I hesitate with Dim Pro and finally my hardrives are too small for that amount of sfz files (just starting to use theses after 17 years in computer music) and it seems the bests sfz are in expensions (or even the free expensions at Cakewalk that u seem to be able to download if u bought Rapture). At least this is what I think I understood from the various threads about this current Cakewalk sale.

So to be back to my original question, is Pentagon worth it ? Ok at this price this could be thought as a no brainer. But I don't want to spread myself too much. I already have almost all free and magware plugs. And a few commercial synths that usually can do more specific stuff...
So my question will be : does Pentagon can do so unusual stuff that cannot be done with other synths, or does Pentagon have an exceptional sound... Anything that can make it stand out to your eyes (or ears :) ).

Thanks for any answers ^^

I've done that, but as VitaminD said, it still puts a bunch of stuff on C anyways. When I installed the 2 free expansions it automatically puts everything on C - No choice, even though the main install was made to another drive. So I manually moved that.

I'll give the registry a try...but I don't think presets (programs) can go anywhere else but C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Rapture\Programs. :(

I would recommend leaving the programs in the default location. They do not take that much space. The real space hogs in CW sfz engine synths are the multisample directories. In my experience the current Rapture installer (used by the expansion packs) does not recognize a relocated multisample directory but it is a simple matter to merge the data after installation. Here is a thread on the CW forum that details the registry entries http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2673527

And that is a problem though..

I wish more developers would simply use XML files and not the windows registry. Then one can reinstall Windows (should they need to) or completely nuke the C partition (provided you're installing software on a D E or other partition) and retain their software.

Or install on a thumbdrive for portability or backups.

Plus it is just more cluttered having files all over the place instead of in a tidy, single location.

I guess this is a battle for another thread though..

My hard drive is a mess :( Should I reinstall windows, I would have to take months to just set everything to run like before...
