The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

if you want to be a drummer you need to take the test

1. 2+2=
2. Spell Cat
3. How long do you cook a three minute egg?
4. What is the opposite of opposite?
5. How do you change a light bulb?

if you get one or more correct, I'm sorry...you dont have what it takes to be a drummer :hihi:

Great article, I did not know that. I'm going to spend some time with F# major. I have a thing for F minor pentatonic and blues in F because of the physicality of the black keys and my sloppy untrained keyboard playing. It seems that I might get something similar out of F# major, we'll see.

No, dearie. You made it about you, so you can play your tired old 'you're making this personal about me' shit. Give it a f**king rest for a change, everyone's familiar with this little dance of yours.

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are very sorry to hear that we unfortunately provided you with
corrupted unit of our instrument.
We will send you replacement ASAP, with all-white morosely-sounding keys.
Once again, we are very sorry for inconvenience.

I used to farm goats to make my own drum skins, but it took so much of my time I never made any music. So I started buying premade skins for my drums. Building my own drums was still time-consuming and difficult, so I started buying drums instead. Playing the drums, recording them and incorporating them in my muscial creations was still a hassle, though, so I started programming them in my computer. Since there are millions of drum patterns available as midi already, I thought "why bother?" and started using midi files and drum samples. I realised I rarely, if ever, actually edited my premade midi loops and that getting a cohesive drum sound was time-consuming, so I started using audio drum loops. Applying the same logic to other instruments, I got hold of some sample construction kits. Making music was now really fast, but I felt there was still room for improvement. In the end I dumped my music making equipment and focused entirely on enjoying premade music. As everyone but the most snobbish hater musos out there know it takes musicality and technical knowhow to choose tracks and hit play, so I still feel fulfulled as a musician. Even when I just let Spotify choose and cue tracks for me, I feel I'm still being creative, since the software is making choices according to my tastes. At the beginning I sometimes felt that it didn't always choose tracks I found interesting, but I just leave it on ... it's like gradually I've been feeling less strongly about music anyway.

Real musicians will cheat you out of money from gigs, they will cheat you out of gear you left at the studio over the weekend, they will bang your girlfriend.

great reversal.
though possibly unintended, it also touches on a legitimate thought that must've crossed nearly every musician's mind: with the wealth of stuff out there, is there any real need to add on top of that?

in the end everyone has to decide if the journey itself is worth it. while the climax of "choosing tracks and hitting play" feels rife with sarcasm, even that is worthwhile thinking about: just picking and listening to music can be more or less creative. getting into new stuff requires attention. it's the creative act of shaping and enrichening your understanding of music, increasing your appreciation.

i am seriously skeptical about anyone claiming the extremes of reading, its very hard to read perfectly and its weird to not read anything at all, not even know chord names or anything like that, cant count bars etc.

but i know the less you read the more you rehearse. and re-rehearse.

But anyway, it would be fun if math too were to arrive at hard science versions of buddhist lore.
Can't say i really get what you described, but "empty sets" and "structure...with all the content removed"...that sure rings a couple bells don't it?
This math has already been done by a mathematician/engineer. George Spencer Brown had a realization that the consequences of nothing had not been explored in western society. He said that the consequences of nothing is the inevitable appearance of "all this". He produced a calculus of indications. He said that this calculus is precursors to existence and truth.

It starts with:

Draw a distinction.....//...call it the first distinction..//...the first distinction is that of distinction....//....the first distinction, the mark and the observer are not only interchangeable, but in the form, identical.

He was quite amazed that the world is so constructed so as to be able to see itself but had to cut itself up to do so.

He said that space is only an appearance....it is what there would be if there could be a distinction. Time is what would be if there could be a change of state.

The first space has no properties and the first time has no duration.

"The conception of the form lies in the desire to distinguish.. Granted this desire, we cannot escape the form, although we can see it in any way we please."

This is all major headfvck stuff that is way beyond me but it intrigues me nonetheless.

Have fun.
