Sounds intriguing ... a low-CPU synth with these sorts of sounds is something I've looked at from time to time - Zebra's always been enough, but a more specific/fast interface is not unappealing. Is the idea something that works well with the supersaw/subtractive stuff interface-wise?
Very curious about the trance gating ... hoping there are maybe a few lanes of sequencing available (sounded like there might be). Uhbik-T really gets amazing when multiple grid rows work together to define one or more sequence, would love to see something like that.

Bring it on ! That sounds damn good .Urs wrote:Ah, and finally something to listen to. Careful, this is extreme kitsch, but since Hive doesn't have audio rate modulation I'm working on something entirely different to create dissonant and bell-type sounds.

Not sure if it's worth investing time into this though...

Superbells?
I don't know, could well be. But when i heard the sound created in this Youtube vid, it reminded me of the signature sound in every 2nd trance track i've listened to:2ZrgE wrote:For my ears there's more Virus than Sylenth, maybe I'm wrong.chk071 wrote:You also hear that it produces 90% of the sounds heard in nowadays trance productions too, it's quite easy to recognize.

One thing is absolutely fact for me.
HIVE MUST SOUND FATTER AND MORE BRILLIANT THAN SYLENTH1.
If Hive sound fatter and more brilliant than sylenth,
the job is well done.

Good observaton! Thinking about it. 4 sines take a little less than a saw to generate (= almost no CPU). Just, all ways I've tried to control a few dozens of sines with a few simple parameters result in 3-5 "samey samey" sets of timbres. It occurrs to me that somehow this kind of synthesis technique requires a slightly more complex (not necessarily difficult) interface - yet one that needs custom controls. Not sure if I'm prepared to do this right now.hakey wrote:If it's about ways to harmonically bend the sines within a supersine oscillator, you should.Urs wrote:Not sure if it's worth investing time into this though...
We could of course also explore FM this way, but I'd much rather go for those padsynth type of timbres that just unfold endlessly.
We'll see. Maybe we just finish Hive with the set of features we originally wanted it to do, and take it from there.

Mod matrix?? No, please!3ee wrote:They are one of the secrets (besides having a mod matrix) of getting "new" sounds and EDM (the old term and not that synth cheesy stuff) for example was always about trying that.
OK, if you built it like that with a MM, I cannot say something. But I don't like MMs at all
In my eyes they are a little bit outdated and simply not intuitive.
Good examples of profiteers of not using mod matrices are Massive, Bazille, Bitwig Studio, to name a few.

^ I didn't meant it would have to be in a traditional way... for example Massive has a mod "matrix"... it's just scattered across the GUI and the workflow is different

Seems people are mentioning sylenth alot, even though it does great supersaws types of sounds it is the filters and drive section that make sylenth special imo. Not to mention the punchy envelopes. Would like to hear more about these parts for the upcoming synth Hive.

I agree, I did mention the envelopes earlier. IMO that is the real standout feature. Even simple patches are punchy. It's just extremely fast and responsive.mysticvibes wrote:Seems people are mentioning sylenth alot, even though it does great supersaws types of sounds it is the filters and drive section that make sylenth special imo. I really hope that the price of this synth will be reasonable, not a Sylenth killer in €€!
I have to get Presswerk since i really enjoyed it and i know that i want this synth!
If U-He goes on like this i will never be able to buy that damn Pro-Q 2 Upgrade!

Have a look at NI Razor's 'dissonance effects' which can, eg, stretch/compress the frequency distance between sines, or freq shift all sines, or 'pinch' the freq of sines towards a central freq etc.Urs wrote: all ways I've tried to control a few dozens of sines with a few simple parameters result in 3-5 "samey samey" sets of timbres.

Yeah, I've built a small modal synth for testing stuff. All in all it just sounds merely like a Zebra feature than a Hive one. It's getting too complex.hakey wrote:Have a look at NI Razor's 'dissonance effects' which can, eg, stretch/compress the frequency distance between sines, or freq shift all sines, or 'pinch' the freq of sines towards a central freq etc.Urs wrote: all ways I've tried to control a few dozens of sines with a few simple parameters result in 3-5 "samey samey" sets of timbres.
I'll continue with the main feature set and keep options for later. There are also a few other things we need to tackle.

The filter itself is rather simple IMHO and leaves some things to be desired. The drive hasn't overwhelmed me either. It's a good combination but nothing Hive can't handle - all IMHO.mysticvibes wrote:Seems people are mentioning sylenth alot, even though it does great supersaws types of sounds it is the filters and drive section that make sylenth special imo. Envs are interesting. Linear attack seems to suppress clicks on short times. Definitely worth looking into.

Here is just one example of sylenths filters in action that I'm referring to. If Hive can do something similar then all is gold

Mhmhmhmmh...that was bad to me...Zebra and quite a few synths can already to that. Different people different things i guessmysticvibes wrote:Here is just one example of sylenths filters in action that I'm referring to. If Hive can do something similar then all is gold
