What does "them" mean? All of them? Sure, they have some plugins, but if they buy up all the top VST developers, and stop them producing VSTs, and make them produce AU only, then more PC users will be forced to move to the Mac.beely wrote:Not really. For what?MaxSynths wrote:It's not impossible for a company like Apple to consider to buy Steinberg and their licenses/patents. This makes sense in terms of money.
The VST format? Apple has it's own AU format, which is the definitive standard audio plugin format on the Mac platform. The DAW? Apple already has a pretty good one. The plugins? Again, Apple already has them.

It's "couldN'T care less".beely wrote:
Not on the Mac platform, it's almost redundant (apart from Cubase Mac users). And for Apple, the *whole audio industry* not just *audio software* is a tiny drop in the ocean. They could care less what happens over on the PC DAW side.

I could see them try to do that. And, yes, the anti-trust laws would stop it.rod_zero wrote:They will have to buy steinberg from yamaha, protools, ableton, presonus, etc At that point monopoly laws will prevent it to go further.
Just watch the platform wars then...

You know a discussion is somewhat overboard when you begin to argue semantics.basslinemaster wrote:It's "couldN'T care less".beely wrote:

Just trying to get 300 million Americans to stop writing "could care less" all over the internet... It's a hard job, but eventually we can do it...

To clarify, I'm English, but one seldom uses one's posh voice for conversing with the rabble and roustabouts that lurk within the darkest nether regions of the KVR forums...basslinemaster wrote:Just trying to get 300 million Americans to stop writing "could care less" all over the internet... To be honest, I'm rather surprised anyone was listening - that doesn't usually happen...

I think most people are right about them acquiring Camel for the tech/talent, not the market segment. They would have picked up Digidesign/Avid years back if they wanted to sell more computers. (Yes, I'd guess that at least half of PT users are on Macs, but why not force the rest of the people onto it? Then of course, they'd force people to upgrade faster than Avid already does.

In the long sought DAW Native Instruments will expand and acquire Bitwig. Perhaps rename it BitKuick.
Why?
Get a good and soon to be great DAW.
Save lots of time and money to develop their own DAW.
Get rid of a potential competitor
Bitwig Version 2 under the NI leadership and deep pockets will be even bigger and better than anyone ever anticipated.
This is pure speculation on my part. Do not spread any rumors.

So spot on and the key with what's f**ked up about this world. What is lost to this is what could save the species. But evolution is what it is, and Humanity has no hope... it is weak...aciddose wrote: In my experience customers are marks. How the cash is siphoned is what is "life in the business world" and often this is by any means necessary.
Yes there are a few who develop software due to a personal interest and some consider their mark to be their honor.
Just don't expect to see anyone successful in business commit seppuku due to being dishonored by a poor quality product or buggy software.
