It's RMV that's on sale, not RMIV. LinPlug are not closing, just discontinuing some products. You probably have an email with download links to the Full Products you have previously purchased. Any problems, email LinPlug. They are very helpful.

Any long term users have any thoughts on how Octopus stacks up against Rhino? Complementary or both cover similar ground (FM, additive, samples etc) Will demo later but additional input always welcome. Thanks.

Based on descriptions at KVR, makes me think the three main things that describes each of them is:Numanoid wrote:Can RMV be compared with Geist, or in case what kind of other drum plug is like it?
-RMV is a synth, sampler and slicer
-Geist is a sampler, slicer and sequencer
So the difference is that RMV has a synth part, while Geist has a sequencer, or what?

Yup, that's pretty much it. Something to compare as well is the number of effects (a lot more different types of effects with Geist) and the quality of the effects (haven't delved into RMV effects yet but the Geist ones are of very good quality).Numanoid wrote:Based on descriptions at KVR, makes me think the three main things that describes each of them is:Numanoid wrote:Can RMV be compared with Geist, or in case what kind of other drum plug is like it?

BTW, got mail from NI that their stuff is not working with Logic/El Capitan yet.
How are these AU's working? There will be no update from Linplug.

I ended up buying RMV yesterday. At this price, it is a no brainer, even if the tiny GUI is the only annoyance and makes me hope it wasn't actually abandonware.Numanoid wrote:Based on descriptions at KVR, makes me think the three main things that describes each of them is:Numanoid wrote:Can RMV be compared with Geist, or in case what kind of other drum plug is like it?

As i Geist user, i must say to be honnest that Geist is way better than RMV as far as workflow, interface and drums sampling go.
RMV is a steal at the discounted price, but it is a bit less intuitive and doesn't allow you real time sampling.
But one of the strong point of RMV is that it gathers drumsampling and drumsynth into a single interface. For 19$, it's a good drumsynth, and having both drumsynthesis and drum sampling modules helps you creating hybrid kits quickly, which is great (even if i think i like Drumatic4 better than the RMV drum modules, but i need to spend more time with RMV).
Also, one good point with RMV is the modulation features, which are greatly lacking in both Drumatic4 and Geist.
About the sequencer : i never thought i would use Geist's sequencer, but in the end i enjoying doing it all into a single interface, so the internal sequencer (while i usually don't like that so much) is great. But in RMV, from my early tests, you can load "grooves" (= internal midi sequences) to have your beat playing. So, in a sense, if you're a preset guy (which i'm not, at all), it can be great and speed up your workflow, but ymmv...
I hope that helps
PS : i wonder if enough people buy RMV during the sale, they would consider making a bigger GUI (i don't think so, but the question still can be asked

Oh heck, I can't compare Octopus to Blue, MUCH less Blue II. It's a very good FM synth with a very good sound, very good program features. It's very good.Caine123 wrote:how is OCTOPUS compared to BLUE?
Octopus is just about four out of five. Blue is easily 4.5.
Blue II is off the scale imo. Only Sytrus and FM8 stand up to it in an FM synth standoff.
But that's just my lowly opinion. No real comparison, but to me overall Octopus definitely is worth 20 dollars. If not a bit more, it's a great deal going on now.
Ha ha suck it!

I'd go about that on Blue. I was personally kind of bummed out that I lost Blue to the upgrade...until I opened Blue II. Still, the original is no joke at all, there's plenty of inspiration to be had there imo.
Ha ha suck it!
