No, it isn't! The preview thing has been implemented some time ago.

The underlying system maybe, but not for the specific artists I was listening to just up to a week or two ago. Guess they just signed up to it then. And I do have a Pro Unlimited account I am already paying 9€ a month for that I thought was 'unlimited', now they want more for this Go addon.

Sounds like a company desperately searching for a revenue stream that will boost their valuation for a big buyout. It also sounds like that particular boat has sailed.

Why would Spotify buy Soundcloud? Look at the revenues vs. losses. It doesn't make any sense. The streaming thing isn't based upon a sound business model. Nobody has made it work yet.

Could SoundCloud do something like Spotify Free:

"With our Free service, you get access to our catalog of over .... tracks (supported by ads) on your computer or tablet. As much music as you want, for as long as you want it"

As a free SC user I should not be complaining of anything but the dead shot, to me, was the removal of the groups feature. As a nobody who make music out of fun, it was exciting to have 50/100 listenings (and comments) only because I posted my track on a group that has a similar musical taste. So the community works: getting listenings, listening to other similar work, trading messages, getting colabs, friends... once the groups were removed, I barely have 1 listening a week.

I know, maybe for the SC crew, this was a unfair trade since I'm not paying them but still gets listenings and even a fan base.

OTOH, I somewhat understand what may be their situation, as theorized before:

I agree that removing of groups was not the best idea. This wrong decisions started IMO if they removed the OpenGraph player, so the Soundcloud player could not be embedded in Facebook. For some reasons it makes a difference if people only see a cover image or if they see a cover image with a "play" button.
I made the test by myself and hosted a song on Hearthis (which supports the embedded player) and on Soundcloud - with very different results.

That's interesting because, in my case, I always open up the song/video/whatever link outside Facebook, in another browser tab. But It's understandable (and makes more sense, I must admit) that most people prefer to have the "play" button avaliable right from the post.
