I wouldn't really call Tantra 2 a dedicated distortion unit tbh.NioV wrote: Mon Sep 12, 2022 2:54 am How’s this in relation to tantra2? Looks like cold fire has more distortion options but some similar effects on Tantra 2.
To me, this looks more comparable to Rift
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

Good lord. That sounds like how Eddie Van Halen used to begin concerts in their later years when he used a power drill on his Frankenstrat.Sampleconstruct wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 4:59 pm Jesus, this thing is dangerous...
My first encounter with Coldfire using a granular piano drone from my Novum library as audio input.

Yes, I noticed that too. So if one wants to have precise control over the distortion one has to switch off some of the surrounding modules.Calagan wrote: Mon Sep 12, 2022 5:57 am Regarding the phasing issue when using dry/wet knob, I think the multiband compressor might have a big influence too...
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I don't understand from a technical perspective why this should be the case for wave shaper-type effects.Calagan wrote: Sun Sep 11, 2022 3:22 pm I had the exact same impression yesterday when I tried some presets, tweaked them, and wanted to use the dry/wet knob.
It was souding amazing 100% wet, and then using the dry/wet knob it suddenly felt apart...
I was not sure if it was a problem with gain staging (if you use dry/wet knob but the wet version is much louder, you may have the same feeling) or a phase issue. I'm still not sure, I should investigate more precisely the issue...
Maybe we should send a ticket to Arturia and ask them about that...
There's no sign of it in any other Arturia plugins, not the compressors, Bus FORCE or Dist TUBE-CULTURE.
There are several reasons for this, multiband is the first and most obvious, this is actually SUPER common with multiband distortions. I haven't tested all of them, but multiband crossovers cause phase dispersion. So in coldfire this would include both the multiband mode, and any presets using the multiband compressorCalagan wrote: Mon Sep 12, 2022 5:57 am Regarding the phasing issue when using dry/wet knob, I think the multiband compressor might have a big influence too...
secondly filters can cause phase misalignment, so perhaps using the pre filters in coldfire will cause phasing issues when not 100%wet. I can't confirm wether the post filters work differently, but perhaps their inability to be modulated has something to do with this
third, and I'm not sure if this one causes phase issues
but some of the distortion modes are dc filtered, not all of them in coldfire are, actually most aren't, but in rift and thermal, all distortions are dc filtered, which could potentially create phasing style frequency imbalance
the rectifier should be dc filtered, I don't think the waveshapers are, can't speak on every algo
but perhaps test JUST a waveshaper to see if phase issues are introduced, then test other modes/ filters etc
also be aware of the color control, absolutely no clue if this is doing anything, but it's worth considering as a potential culprit

Thats a great sound you got out of that.Sampleconstruct wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 4:59 pm Jesus, this thing is dangerous...

My first forays with it have been a bit hit and miss. Some of the distortion modes seem better than others to me.
I was testing in only on Phosycon 2 and it didn't seem to be as 'real' as some other distortions I have, to some modes steered towards a hifi/plasticy flavour.
I think I'll get some use out of it. Transistor,. geranium and waveshaper seem pretty good and the modulation is pretty simple and fun to use. Other modes I'll need to play with more, but don't seem quite as good to me so far.

Oversampling often adds in latency, the higher the Oversample, the higher the latency. That might just be causing the phasing issue.chagzuki wrote: Sun Sep 11, 2022 6:25 pmWeird, I just tried Minimal Audio Rift and there's massive phasing when using the wet/dry control. Funny, I just stumbled upon this vid on YouTube and it’s the one that pushed me over the edge and buy it during the 50% off summer sale. Wish I would’ve bought it at $29, but alas…

DIST COLDFIRE is one of the best (effect) plugins in the last few years in my opinion. If you are into that type of sound, that is. I am sure you won't be disappointed to have spent the extra 20 bucks.cryophonik wrote: Sat Aug 05, 2023 3:40 pmFunny, I just stumbled upon this vid on YouTube and it’s the one that pushed me over the edge and buy it during the 50% off summer sale. Wished I would have upgraded to the whole fx suite for 99 € when the offer was there. Just when I thought I don't need it, I got interested in LX-24, the RE-201 emulation, Fragments and Coldfire. Oh well.

They just had a sale actually. Probably a bit late to let people know now I guess.
