@Negoba: I'm not really sure that "Dawesome Love" isn't something that changes sound character too much, but that probably depends how much "magic" you used.
It can even create granular huge pad from basic pluck.

I've decided to pull out of this - for a start I've been offered money for the track, so immediately removed it from my website.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

Yes that plugin can do some crazy effects. I'm using more as a different flavor of reverb. I guess I can PM the organizers and make sure it's ok. I can also probably switch it out for something that doesn't have so many other tricks up its sleeve.PeterBPL wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 9:02 pm @Negoba: I'm not really sure that "Dawesome Love" isn't something that changes sound character too much, but that probably depends how much "magic" you used.It can even create granular huge pad from basic pluck.
But it would be a shame to have to get rid of the "Love Bus" track in my project.

As far as I understand, the main reason of these rules is to show how synth sounds like, what are its possibilities to create sound and effects. You choosed very powerful synth, so additional sound crafting plugins is not really the best idea imo. This plugin changes character of synth a lot. But ask organizers and you'll get your answer. I'm just curious. This is only my second OSC and I just want to know. I even removed all my additional external SnapHeap effects and made them part of synth presets (PhasePlant) to be 100% sure that it is within the rules. The more I know, the less questions I'll have later.Negoba wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 10:50 pm Yes that plugin can do some crazy effects. I'm using more as a different flavor of reverb. Based on past history I'm pretty sure it's fine. I can use NastyDLA for example as long as I'm not using chorus (otherwise just a delay). It's fine to choose a powerful synth and still use additional plugins.PeterBPL wrote: Sun Jan 21, 2024 11:11 pmAs far as I understand, the main reason of these rules is to show how synth sounds like, what are its possibilities to create sound and effects. I'm just saying - I'm not sure. If it's allowed then it's allowed.empphryio wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:55 am Based on past history I'm pretty sure it's fine. DAW: Studio One Pro
AAS Ultra Analog VA-3 x 13
5 x S1 Pro EQ
1 x S1 Room Reverb
2 x S1 Fat Channel XT
2 x Sonible SmartEQ 4
Metering: Melda MMultiAnalyzer
Master: AMEK Mastering Compressor + TDR Limiter 6 GE
Description: This is first time that I've done something like this. Actually, this is the first time I've made an actual track, so this is all very new to me. If I made some mistakes, please let me know. I have zillion plugins and that is killing me (since I have very limited amounts of free time and always just 'play around' with things and never learn one properly) so OSC challenge was actually an amazing exercise. I've chosen VA Ultra Analog VA-3 because it was simple enough and has in-built effects. Using HIVE and similar things felt like cheating so I wanted to get familiar with VA-3. I believe I have disabled all instances of Chrous/Flanger/Distortion effects in presets I was using or created. I have only used presets from factory libraries, nothing extra. I've used Sonible SmartEQ 4 to try it out (on kick/bass channels) and learn a bit, I can take it out if it's not allowed. I specifically tried not to use any more plugins and wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I don't have much free time so it was a quick one but I actually had insane amounts of fun. I don't have a slightest idea what I am doing most of the time, AMEK Mastering Compressor is there because it sounded good, hopefully I didn't mess up the track because of that (it 'expanded' stereo field quite a bit, not sure how to explain it). Any advices on whether I should remove it are most welcome

That is for sure unnecessary - presets can contains effects, it's part of synth. External flanger/distortion or chorus may not be, but when it's part of synth - it's allowed.midi sentinel wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:32 pm (...) Don't worry about having lot of synths. There is no such thing as "too many", because nobody force you to utilize every synth in 100% ("oh, I'll not buy new plugin, because my old synth have 1000 presets and I used only 400 so far"?). IMO it's like every other hobby - you collect things that may be useful just for use them when needed. Anglers collects fishing rods that sometimes costs hundreds of euros and do you really think that fish is more happy because they spend more money?

Welcome Midi-Sentinel! It's a lovely "synthy" song - lots of interesting parts. Well done for getting a track out. I really hope you enjoy OSC and stick around - we are a really good bunch. You'll learn plenty.midi sentinel wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:32 pm https://soundcloud.com/midi-sentinel/ge ... dom-osc179

BTW - you can use chorus/flanger etc if they come built into the synth. You just can't use separate plug-in fx like that.
