 I just realized that I haven't gotten an email from him for a very long time and I don't remember unsubscribing. I gave him one of my junk email addresses where 95% of the stuff I get is spam so his emails didn't make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

Won't happen for me unfortunately. Juan Arguelles.
Well I didn't mean literally resurrected but yes I agree Arguru is missed.
He even has his own Wiki page may he rest in peace.

I'll add another one I like to see get back into the business, Rene of RGC maker of many fine synths in the early days.

I still have a lot of synths from the early days installed on an old DAW that's running WinXp. Still boots up and still runs.

I fired it up recently and noticed that while synths like White Noise Zero Vector and the aforementioned Groove Cube Exiton still sound good they simply don't sound as good as the synths in my current starting lineup.

Even when I loaded up the Windows version of Alchemy a few months ago I was shocked at how little I like the sound today. Alchemy used to be one of my favorite synths before it was abandoned on Windows so I was taken aback by how it sounds today. Again compared to the other options I have. I still like its granular capabilities but I so infrequently use granular synthesis that it's really a non-issue.

I'll make the analogy that it's like when we used to watch movies on VHS tape on standard def TVs back in the day we thought that was amazing. But now watch that same movie in 4K and the difference is quite apparent.

So while I have nostalgia for those early days of VSTi, I much prefer the 4K synths we have at our fingertips these days. Progress marches on....

A BIG YES. It was like having Live's session view as a plugin. I remember he was interested in working with Jorgan to have it implemented into EnergyXT which would have been f**king awesome.
I think I recall that Jacob (? if I remember correctly) went to work for Ableton.

Honorable mention to Synth1.
It's unfortunate that the legendary Synth1 has basically become abandonware. It would have been great if Mr. Ichiro Toda had decided to open-source it, or give someone else (for instance, the Surge Synth Team) the permission to further develop and support the plugin.
Having said that, I don't think that Synth1 needs much improvement: make it skinnable (personally, I don't mind the default interface), add some basic features to make the general user experience better (double click to reset the parameter, for one), check the code for bugs, add oversampling option, update the plugin so it can work with latest DAWs and operating systems (macOS specifically, maybe Linux?), and you're golden.

I don't remember his name either but good for him if he went with Ableton. That would explain why Livelab was abandoned. Bittersweet.

Alchemy and Absynth, as mentioned, absolutely, to which I'd add TubeOhm Pure Grain.

Since this thread is for plugins and not DAWs, I’ll go with Cakewalk GrooveSynth (along with its host, Project5, of course)
