1. I do not care for buying names, I prefer to buy guitars. The mark up for the Gibson name is absurd.
2. Les Pauls, I do not find them a comfortable guitar for me working always in a studio environment. They are just too heavy.
3. Stop Bar tail pieces, again they just are not comfortable for me to play. Of course that is just a matter of taste but for me it's a big one. An SG feels like my action is way too high (this is all in my head but tough to get around)
4. I'm not much of a fan of their necks the slim taper and some genuine old Les Paul Jr's. A one time very close friend plays nothing but Les Pauls with the exception of an SG doubleneck he had Gibson make for him in the early 80s to jimmy page's specs. He has one of the first generations of the Jimmy Page Les Paul and it has a slim taper neck that I kinda like but with that guitar you pay a fortune for two names. His son also had an Epiphone Les Paul and TBH it's the best Gibson product I ever played...but it needed better pups.

:)

Studios are fine but what's wrong with your Japanese knock off? What brand is it? It's funny, in Japan, Gibson's sell for surprisingly cheap and I think it might have to do with how good the Japanese knock offs are. Gibson player regularly tell me that my Orville (which was Gibson's Japanese brand in the 90's) is one of the best Les Paul's they've ever played.

It is unmarked, I only suspect it is Japanese because I heard they are the most common. I think it is quite old, judging from the original electronics, which I had replaced as they didn't work. I will up some shots of it here in a week when I have a camera. It's like the neck was built separately from the body, as I had to pack the neck up to get a decent action, so the fineness of build isn't that great. It's top is gorgeous light fiddleback though, which was originally sunburst, now natural. I'm inspired to play it now, I can for the first time try it with a tube amp :)
Thanks for your reply Hink,it is silly to be a sucker for branding, but yeah, I think I am a bit.
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Smiling is over rated.

Ironically I'm usually laughing much of the time when I'm online.
