Not really, not that I think that they're necessarily a bad idea, but one needs context. I have two of the behringer fixed filter banks. I use an Allen and Heath digital mixer as my final mixing stage. So, if I want to apply EQ to an additive voice at that point I can.Constructed Identity wrote: Sun Oct 12, 2025 8:27 pmI think one of the plugins that came with the purchase of Audiofuse 16rig is an LA-2A compressor clone but that is the only one I currently own.ghettosynth wrote: Fri Oct 10, 2025 3:10 amThat sounds dangerous. I've heard that staying in the goldilocks zone can lead to sensible consumption. I mean, you have to be careful there, next you going to be telling us that you don't own multiple LA-2A compressor plugins! Crazy talk!Constructed Identity wrote: Fri Oct 10, 2025 12:08 am Overall, I feel like I'm in the goldielocks zone for size- big enough to do multiple things together, but not too big that I can't pick it up easily and move around.Born poor and will die poor. But... do you use EQ modules in your rack?
What do you think about this: https://reverb.com/item/92357277-zlob-m ... k-2hp-2025
I like the name- Zlob modular
At present, if I want something more complex I generally switch to the digital domain and use my MetaModule. Of course, that comes with in-rack latency, so, that may not be what people want.
OTOH, using resonant filters without resonance is essentially a type of EQ, and I do have some modules, other than the fixed filter banks, that either get used that way or are that way. For example, I have the Behringer HP/LP Moog module that also has noise generators along the bottom.
If I were to go beyond that I would want one of two things. 1) Either a fully parametric channel with VC over width and frequency, or, a very steep HP/LP, resonance optional, but, VC control over F is necessary.
As far as ZLOB, yes, great name, it's grabbed my attention before as well. That said, I don't like anything that I want to control in real time to be in two to three HP. Four is the minimum for me for active interaction modules. I tolerate the Z-DSP, but I don't play it in real time with its tiny trimmers. Because it's 3HP, it's manageable, but I still don't like it. The only other modules that I have that are 2HP are passive, set and forget, mixers, or passive mults.
I think that it comes down to whether those blocks will fit some role within a voice that justifies the HP. For me, that doesn't mean on the output side, because that I can do in my mixer. It would have to lie within some patch somewhere such that EQing on the output side isn't equivalent.
Now, If I were playing live, I would always have a DJ mixer as my final stage and I would choose the mixer to have the final EQ that I wanted to play with. So, for someone that plops their rack down and plugs into the soundboard, I can see the value of DJ EQ, Limiting, or just final stage EQ in the rack, but, again, that's a very specific context.
