Why don't we all just email our favorite developers and ask them sincerely for a special sale price? Who would you email?

Could you post back any gossip their sales reps tell you: e.g. we are expecting a sale in October for our XYZ product?

I want to say that just because something was on sale for a limited amount of time, does not mean its value is set by that brief sale.

For instance, take Ultra Analog which was on sale at audiomidi for $15 USD. UA currently retails for $185 USD in online shops.

Just because we bought it for a fraction of that means we got a great deal and now have a product worth $185. I see others on here trying to rip off others claiming a product is worth the no-brainer value when that sale does not exist anymore... prices have gone up.

Very good point but........if we sell our No Brainer deals for a profit we may not see any more No Brainer deals so it could backfire.

I've bought in on every AudioMIDI no-brainer since they were first offered. Most, but not all, have up-sell tie-ins that, I assume, make it very worthwhile for the dev. I also assume that the sheer volume of sales in the short term (has there been one of these yet where the server didn't crash?) brings in a nice lump of cash for what would otherwise be a foundering, older product.

If I recall correctly, the Ultra Analog deal was a bit of a bait and switch. Not that I don't think I got my money's worth--this was clearly a very nice piece of kit. But shortly after buying it, I was scratching my head at the follow up email for the inevitable upsell which, IIRC, was offering the FULL VERSION of the software for somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 or so.

So, apparently, the software was not the full version (although it is a fully functional instrument). Any secondary sale of this, I think, correctly needs to specify that this was the 'no-brainer' version, and not the full version.

that is incorrect. ultra analog is indeed the full version.

That's debatable to a point of perception.

I knew exactly what I purchased, which was Xils 3 LE for $20, so I never felt there was a "bait and switch" issue here. As for the value of this, I agree that it's value is now settled at $20, since this seams to be the permanent pricing.

But moving back to some of the other no-brainer deals like Ultra Analog and even PSP Nitro, I don't think their value should be diminished by the no-brainer deals. I just think it was a great deal for a limited time. As for selling at a profit... I think people will decide how much they're willing to pay for something as opposed to how much is asked. I don't see the need for anyone to derail any "FS" threads just because the don't agree with the asking price. Also don't forget (not directed at you BERFAB, just speaking generally here), not everyone purchased at a discount. Some people paid full price.

The same goes for the bundled Fabfilter deal (Twin 2, Timeless 2 and Volcano 2 for $99). That was just an incredible deal, but they're all certainly worth more (and I say this because I bought them all for much more long before the deal was made available).

Your points are all well-taken. My ignorance of the difference between Xils 3 LE and the full version does not taint the offer. And, like I said, I thought the actual value of the goods in any event was certainly worth it.

I also agree with you that sale prices should not dilute the value of the plug once it returns to full price. The Fabfilter deal (which I also got and still can't believe my good fortune) is a great example of this.

However, there are often factors IN CONJUNCTION with a sale price that will serve to dilute the value of a plug in the marketplace regardless. A great example of this, IMHO, is what IKMultimedia have done to many of their previously high-end plugs by devaluing their asking price again and again with various group buys. Their signature synth, Sampletank, has been offered as a near freebie in a number of deals in the past couple of years, and, with the most recent group buy, now settles in at a value of somewhere around $25-$50 bucks. Ditto T-Racks singles, a relatively NEW plug in that has been bonused and given away.

I've paid $200 to $350 for each of the IK synths at one point. I'm not bitching about it because I paid what they were worth at the time, and I've gotten value from their use. However, currently, market forces and the relative age of these plugs (along with the imminent release of a new version?!) conspire to make them worth much less than their former established price.

Now even if IKM raised their price back up to the original price points, the market dictates that if there are still a ton of LEGITIMATE copies floating around for re-sale at a much lower price (due to all the prior sales and group buys), it is the lower price that will prevail.

Is there any info on whether Circle will be supported at all, or is it essentially a discontinued "as is" product?

If it's the latter, it's a shame to see it go this quickly.
