im interested in trying harrison mixbus,i use studio one pro for mixing, how does the mix-summing work with harrison mixbus?
and instead of bouncing out audio from studio one pro,is there a way to "route"tracks from studio one pro into mixbus?
if its possible how do you do that?

It has built in EQ and dynamics on every track modeled on Harrison consoles. On the mixbus channels it also has tape saturation and tone controls. So when you start combining them all they start to get some proper tone and texture. The Audio engine and how it sounds is what sets it apart for me, its hard to describe unless you hear it for yourself. The Eqs and dynamics are excellent as well as the rest. As for mixing into it, there is no rewire yet, unless you use energy Xts plug in bought seperately, If you use ardour on linux or Mac you can use the Jack application to route audio in and out of mixbus, so it would probably work for studio 1 on mac. The main thought behind mixbus was on sound quality, and the idea of using it for mix summing. I find myself repeating what I have said with this, but when you load samples in and just hit playback there is a notable difference in what you hear. You will have to try it for yourself really, but the Equalizer is one of the best emulations I have heard so far.S-N-S wrote:im interested in trying harrison mixbus,i use studio one pro for mixing, how does the mix-summing work with harrison mixbus?

I own it, but can't use it for my regular work until they add video support.
Plus, the more I acquire plugs like VCC and VTM, the more I get close enough to the sound I want in Cubase. Honestly, at this point I wish I had waited to buy it.

In case it's of interest to anybody here....
Users of Mixbus v2.1 can also benefit from version 2 of ArdourXchange. Due to popular demand, our original importer plugin (which allowed you to import AAF sessions from other workstations) has been upgraded to include OMF support in addition to AAF. Versions are available for Windows, OS-X and Linux with only a few caveats:-
ArdourXchange is available here for only $39.50:-

- 1) If you're running on OS-X you must use an Intel-based Mac.
2) If you're running on Linux you must have a WORKING copy of Wine. For recent Wine versions, this will probably mean having to swap out a couple of DLLs (which we can supply).
3) Non-embedded exports aren't supported yet although they're anticipated by the end of August.

When Ardour3 comes out , so I imagine Mixbuss will be updated and you'll have a complete DAW with the use of VSTi and midi . I tried the demo on Linux and was impressed with the sound and interface , reminds me of Reason/Records SSL mixer , but with a better/smaller GUI ( ie. not hoggin the whole screen like Reason/Record does uuhg ) . Its got eq , compressor , limiter , tape saturation , really nice metering !! It'd be cool if Harrison released a mixbuss VST plugin and channelstrip VST plugin for those who want to use a different DAW other than Ardour though. It really does have a cool/smooth sound to it !!
I guess you could export your music to stems and import it in to Harrison Mixbuss , if you really want a good go at it . The best feature to me is you can just grab a eq or dynamics knob anywhere and turn it , instead of clicking a plugin to open and close and adjust , so for mixing there is a heck of workflow advantage there .

^ It's only a guess, but I think some VSTs are in the works. If you look in the subscription option for MixBus it includes discounts for future "Premium Plugins". Check here:

Oh, and yes, I'm dribbling over the prospect of VSTi/MIDI.

v2.1 is the latest. Don't know about windows x64. You can ask them directly, but you may only get an "in the works" answer.

I can't see one on their site, but it's in the manual. You can download that from there. Anyway the changes are:pwal wrote:hi, thanks for the info - is there a version change log available somewhere?
List of changes for Mixbus 2.1:
- Search and import files directly from www.freesound.org
- Export your session directly to www.soundcloud.com
- Session Metadata: store and recall information about your session for future reference and attribution. This is increasingly important in the era of music licensing for video & advertising.
- Hold "Alt" to override mix-groups for fader/mute.
- Reworked region fades and crossfade shapes, including re-adding the constant-power crossfade.
- Mixbus can utilize the (optional 3rd-party) ArdourXchange plugin to load AAF and OMF session files.
- Audio file metadata "tags" are now correctly saved and recalled, and can be searched from the "Import" dialog.
- LADSPA and VST plugin user presets are now saved/recalled.
- Automation and gain lines are now thicker and easier to see when editing.
- When no track is selected in the editor, the Master bus will be shown on the left.
- Removed "advanced options" from the New Session dialog.
- Consolidate and Bounce functions "with processing" are removed to avoid confusion; these can't work in Mixbus.
- Fixed keybindings for setting region fade in/out length.
- Changed fader scale so mouse stays within mixer window.
- Re-added meter to import window auditioner.
- Automation thinning was much too aggressive on low-level fader moves. This has been fixed.
- Improved export dialog is much easier for new users to set up.
- Fixed crash caused by 2 tracks with fader automation in a mix group.
- Faders move in realtime when playing back automation (fixes a bug introduced in 2.0.7)
- Post-fader plugin output is no no longer muted when the fader is set at -inf.
- Fixed a bug that caused crashes when opening sessions with plugin sliders attached to nonexistent plugins.
- Fixed an automation editing bug that caused "sawtooth" automation to be created unexpectedly when resizing track height.
- Fix crash when user releases a touched control after transport is stopped.
- Several other fixes to realtime automation and graphical automation editing.
Windows
- VST plugins are now sent correct transport position and state (fixes plugins with transport )
- Improved CPU performance with VST plugins.
- Shell ( Waves ) plugins can now be loaded without using shell2vst
- VST plugins are now scanned in a separate app, eliminating crashes when scanning ( coming soon to OSX! )
- Canceling an "export" will no longer cause the transport to become unresponsive.
OSX
- Fix for AU plugins that "lost" the right channel output, among other issues.
- Fix for AU plugin window locations: when hidden, plugin windows are now more likely to re-appear where you last had them.
- Fix for multi-monitor bug with carbon-based plugins; plugin UI will no longer split from the parent window.
- Removed accidental dependence on X11 libs which were missing on some OSX systems.
Linux
- Mixbus will now look in usr/lib64 for LV2 plugins on a 64bit system.
- Updated experimental "Sustain" plugin to use new "embedded" X11 UI.

No, still only 64-bit on Linux AFAIK. I think the main thing is the release of the plugins.
Dyno-Mite seems good, if a little specific in use. I'll need more time to judge the other 2.
