this is precisely why i may not be buying it. i just can't demo it properly with the ridiculous crackles.

I would have to agree. The crackles on the demo really detract from any appreciation of the benefits of Satin - which are considerable. They come in so quickly that I have no doubt they are dissuading potential purchasers from working with the demo for very long at all. This particularly applies in a situation where you want to experiment with the grouping in Studio mode.

Some users will say - f@#$ it - and just buy it. Some will just decide to forget the whole thing. PSP - for example - generally give a significant period where you can work with the plugin pretty much undindered and I have found this has given me time to develop an appreciation of their stuff much of which I own. If u-He is going to bring out more effects style products - which I hope they do - I would like to encourage them to introduce a more agreeable demo mode.

Agreed to many points. But here is what I can't get away from........it sounds better than w/o :x I'm not a "loudness" ho.......but I am a "gooodizer" ho..... satin seems to be the later. With proper gain staging and the damned demo restrictions I can still get satin to sound superior.

Yeah, the demo is pretty lame, but I can still hear that it makes a good diff.

Well, did we mention that we've contracted a developer to build a small demo-DAW for us which will allow people to test Satin without demo restrictions? It just isn't ready yet and it'll address the whole issue.

a time limit would suffice. no need to be sarcastic.

Wasn't meant to be sarcastic - was just written during my first coffee

That's one of the great thing's about sarcasm. It can be used anytime, even when there is no need. :hihi:
If your stuck for some I can give you loads for free, with no demo restrictions.

Demo-DAW = good idea! I don't think it's already been mentioned in the u-he forum, BTW.

Better for me would be to be able to plug it into a suitable song I am working on and see how it works in the context of my ongoing work. Would a more accommodating demo mode really be so much more crackable? I have a license already and the full version of Satin is working well for me so I am not really saying this for me in this particular case - I abandoned the demo very quickly due to the frustrations I experienced - but as a general comment on my strong preferences for any future u-He FX demos. I am a long time fan of Sascha's work in this area but I would still like to at least go through the motions of testing it before caving and going through with the purchase ;-)

Any of you people prefer audio dropouts every half minute?
Up until this day, EAReckon's EARebound delay is just no fun demoing. But if I had the funds, and my CPU would be strong enough to handle it, I would have gotten it by now.

Just sayin'.

@Howard:
I think it was... which also drowned somewhere in the... er... noise. :hihi:

Edited: Misunderstood the time code of KVR posts

I'm only envious of people who would be able to start work at noon

As for the question about a solo NR - click "Bypass Tape" and there's no hiss at all. Just EQ and compander. Which still at the price of Satin is a steal, compared to what the vintage hardware goes for on eBay.
The vintage hardware sits in a corner of my studio, unused. If I wanted what it did, I'd be using it. The plugin is much more convenient and far more cost effective from a cost per chargeable hour standpoint.

Is your point that you'd like me to pay you to make a version of the plug where you don't *ADD* the hiss? I think I'd be happy to, name your price and lets see what we can do
Hmmm. No, that isn't my point. My point is that Satin can already do what you bought it for. You only want the compander without the tape - there it is. I'm sorry if the rest of the plugin is none of your interest.

My other point is that we arrived at the conclusion that we might have to do a bit more hifi (no hiss) and a bit more lofi (more of such) a few days ago. So there's no need to let us know anymore and it also won't cost extra when we get to do it.
All of which simply reinforces U-He's simple rep - the best music plug-in company.
