@Dunbar - "Imageline have switched from keyfile to c/r, online activation."
That's not completely true. Lately when a version first comes out there is a period where only the online registration will work, soon after a keyfile is made and is placed in a registered user's account. I have a regfile for 20.9 or later in my account now.

Unfortunately, it is true.
Imageline's new "offline" activation method requires access to the internet. Without access to the internet a new install of FL Studio 20.9 (and higher) cannot be unlocked.

Yes, it is sad. I've resisted making a song and dance about it in the forums. Personally, I consider it a parting of the ways. Time to move on.
That said, Version 20.8 can still be unlocked with a keyfile and will probably be viable for another decade, at least.
I've begun looking for a new DAW, nonetheless. Reaper is rough around the edges, aesthetically, but is functional. Sugar Bytes' DrumComputer can handle polyrhythmic mayhem, Plogue Bidule can replace Patcher, Sitala, beat chopping etc... It's lucky I took the decision to move to hardware synths a few years ago, so I'm not dependent on FL Studio's VSTis.

I've tested products from two developers that use serials to unlock their software: Apisonic Labs and Music Developments.
Can confirm Apisonic Labs' "SpeeDrum" and Music Developments' "Rapid Composer" do not require online authorisation.

Looks like TAL is moving to some sort of CR type registration as well.

Yes, he he was very quiet about it too--no announcements other than that blurb in the FAQ. It's getting harder and harder to find plugins that aren't challenge/response. I've even started looking at using hardware again....
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)
