Thanks a lot everyone for sharing your thoughts on possible pricing models.
I've given it time and reflection and have decided to keep the current model, but with a slightly higher price for a new MuLab / MUX Modular Plug-In User Key.
Everything already is updated in the MuTools shop now so you can have a look there for the details.
From now on purchasing an M8 user key also includes a free upgrade to M9!

In my view: fair pricing and reasonable decision.mutools wrote: Wed Oct 21, 2020 8:32 pm Thanks a lot everyone for sharing your thoughts on possible pricing models.

If version 9 is that close, I hope Jo is getting enough sleep
I remember when he did that complete mac port re-write in like a couple months, amazingly fast for one guy. Jo has got to be one of the most prolific developers I've ever seen.

Better to upgrade now. Then you'll get M9 for free toochuckwood wrote: Sun Oct 18, 2020 11:27 pm I have a MUX7 licence (I've been out of the loop for while) and it's time for an upgrade, should I wait for MUX9? How might the various upgrade options change?
If you would wait for M9 and upgrade from M7 -> M9 that will be a bit more expensive as the lowest upgrade option is only valid if you have the previous version.

My money is waiting for vst3. I really love the mux concept and wouldn't mind playing with mulab also. I simply rely on vst3 with more than half my plugs. I don't want to use bluecat or another vst to do this.
As far as lifetime free updates with purchase, i believe people are too quick to discredit that. Look at FL studio. They only keep growing. Their sales are increasing as per Scott on the forums.
It brings in a lot more users and word spreads overtime. They keep getting new users which keeps the software moving forward. It seems counterintuitive on the surface but I think this route takes care of a lot the marketing inherently.
They have the most rich online communities of any DAW that I know of. Fanboys answer most of the questions.
My two cents. Something to look into. Every devs situation is different of course.

Thx for your feedback. I agree it's an interesting option. And though i've chosen not yet to go for it at this point in time, i don't drop it as an option for the future.gsirvine wrote: Thu Oct 22, 2020 3:45 pm As far as lifetime free updates with purchase, i believe people are too quick to discredit that. If you buy M8 now the upgrade to M9 will be free. If you already have M8 the upgrade to M9 will be gentle.

Is there a write-up / list of new features coming in v9?mutools wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2020 6:42 pm If you buy M8 now the upgrade to M9 will be free. If you already have M8 the upgrade to M9 will be gentle.
Looking quickly through this I saw at least 2 that I'm excited about - clip launcher & alias clips! - but probably there's more I overlooked?
I'm gonna try the free version tonight and will likely buy a full version if I like it.
