I am a newbie and it seems quite expensive. I am wanting to start with Logic Pro or Ableton Live, but liking Logic more from videos.

Also, how much money if any have you made with music?
I have spent a lot. That's why I'm heading to put up for sale some pieces like this Cherry Audio collection that I never use.

CA2600
DCO-106
Dreamsynth
Eight Voice
Memorymode
Mercury-4
Miniverse
Polymode Synthesizer

Several thousand - almost everything on sale.

As a learning tool.

Much easier now to be savvy and only usually get something different from what I have. And disciplined.

Better to get one of the best than several of the rest.

i'm not sure. about $800 to $1000?

I'm somewhere in the middle...

First post here, and I've signed up to try to fix the problem contained in my answer to this thread's big question: five figures over the last 2.5 years. I was getting into production (I'd only been into writing, recording, and mixing before in my university days). I am happy with about a third of it; the rest of it has only caused problems. Once my account qualifies, I am selling a ton.

Post

In the last two years I have sold a lot more software than I bought.

But that also means that I bought too much the years before. Again, I think I am on the right track.

Post

About £5,000.00 and I think they were worth every single penny.

Post

I have spent thousands of dollars, but you don't need to.
If you search for "the complete free pro tools plugins list" you'll find a lot of free plugins to work with.
Also you have free professional DAWs to start with, like Reaper or Cakewalk.

Post

Reaper is not free, despite what their generous demo period might suggest

(“demoed“ it for about a year too though, until they finally released 6.00) :clown:
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

Current DAW and Plugins: $2300. And I probably lost several hundred from buying and selling throughout the years.

Kind of an incomplete equation in the premise here.
It's not just about "how much spent" and if it is, perhaps this is not a pursuit to continue in.
Once I add in some standard cost averaging, return of investment (financially, psychologically and even spiritually) and appropriately even apply standard deprecation over time...

I haven't spent anything but time.
In fact, quite the opposite, they pretty much pay me in multiple dividends.

The only time I really think of "cost" and "loss" is in dealing with company/developers sociopathy.
And if I posted those, I might get suspended or banned!

I think this is a healthy mindset; I started investing in this stuff during a pretty vulnerable time and I've paid the price for it, but I've also gained some very good life lessons. I've been paring things down, trying to get things sold, and getting my focus together. It's been a wild ride so far.
