I posted a few pages back but it's worth repeating in case you missed it. Sexan, a user over on the Reaper forums has cooked up a killer script for working with containers and FX.imrae wrote: Wed Oct 18, 2023 6:07 pmI’m looking forward to playing with plugin containersNegoba wrote: Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:08 pm I am very happy with Reaper overall with my current 6.78. Did it ask you to? It's still working fine (and showing as licensed to me) with my 6.x license.
The funny thing is I almost *want* to pay again

Reaper licenses are good for two full version numbers. So, if you purchased with 6.x, then you are good until the last version 7. For those of us who last upgraded with 5.x, we have to upgrade now that 7.x is out.stoopicus wrote: Wed Oct 18, 2023 8:21 pmDid it ask you to? Are you new to Reaper? In my experience, the best features "for you" can come at any time. I don't really think about whether I'll upgrade or not, I will. The last upgrade was in Oct 2016. That was seven years ago. So, yes, I see reaper as a subscription with a cost of something around $10 a year paid in advance. There are enough new features to justify this year's $10 upgrade.Negoba wrote: Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:08 pm I am very happy with Reaper overall with my current 6.78. Why are you guys buying licenses when you can just use the unrestricted demo indefinitely?
Relax. I'm joking.

Ask not what your DAW can do for you, but what you can do with your DAW

imagine going into a thread for a daw you don't use just to shit on it and it's users. I can't think of a more obvious way to signal you are frustrated with your own ability (or inability) to create art. amazing.
anyways
love this new update and the reaper team are f**king gods of development. Big learning curve but absolutely worth it if you're a power user who appreciates customization/scripting and a really nerdy helpful community. ♥

I am not at all trying to contradict you here, but every community has some sycophants. I recall spending some time trying to explain on their forums with others why the Reaper comping system wasn't as good as some other DAWs and getting roundly ignored or workaround told to death about it. Then 7 comes out with a new comping system.Zoopy wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 4:22 am imagine going into a thread for a daw you don't use just to shit on it and it's users. I used the pre-release version of 7, and when 7 came out I had to purchase the upgrade as my license ran out. Instant no brainer upgrade for me. I have a number of other daws, but Reaper is by far the best for me. The spectral display options are one of the most important factors. After 13 years , I've only just started looking into the scripting, because I didn't know there was so many great and helpful tools made within the community.

Mac OS don't solve the issue. You still can't theme it and it often brings me out of the workflow.machinesworking wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:45 amMac OS solves the GUI issues, maybe there's a Windows/Linux mod? Dark mode solves the awkward look of menus. At least on Mac OS the headers and all menus change to Dark mode when the OS does. I guess this is only useful if like me you like darker DAWs.iTzPrime wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 7:49 am Use whatever is best for you. Just because one feature is missing doesn't mean the DAW is terrible. It just has different priorities.
One thing that I will say about Reaper, is that I do hope that they update the GUI in a way that all menus can be themeable or look better.
If DP ever goes under Reaper is the DAW for me. One simple reason, it also includes multiple choices for count in, like count in with metronome while playing, only while recording etc. Logic looks amazing for many things, but I just want a count in with a metronome that stops when playback starts and not only while recording. Reaper and DP do that here. It's a slightly weird DAW for sure, but the only "missing" thing is Live/Bitwig style looping. It covers every other base and them some.
