I asked Peter and he mentioned this:
The Programmer's Edition is free for existing OP-X PRO-3 licensees. You can find it as new download option in the login area when you scroll down a bit (1.0.6, blue icon).

I can't get to my login area. I can only access my OPX II license area. I don't have credentials for OPX 3 or can't find them.Examigan wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 7:46 pm I asked Peter and he mentioned this:

I know almost everything about Prince!
Sorry to disappoint you
He most certainly did care about sound, why else would he spend the money on recreating Sunset Sounds console and tape machines he loved so much?Prince didn't care about sound, he cared about fast workflow,
You are also making the wildly incorrect assumption that you can't work fast and get the sound you want
Consoles have a unique sound, it's why people will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on them. It's why Prince had a console custom made and delivered to Paisley Park Studio. To get that sound all he had to do was record through that mixer and record it to tape on a certain formula
You can literally press record and play within seconds and get that color with no time or real effort as it was a byproduct of the gear
That's why it's silly to pretend that the desk, tape machine, and tape formulations had no sonic effect. They most certainly did and once that was dialed in, it was lighting fast to pull off again and again
So when Prince would record an Oberheim at Sunset Sound, or at Paisley Park it would have a certain sound, one he would get very quickly and with minimal workflow involved, and one that for the most part we can't get today
Which is why is rather silly to complain that Oberheim plugins don't sound like the Prince record. How could they?
Sure because later in life he became a recluse and lived in his studio, one he custom built for getting the sound he wanted spending millions of dollars on the process, he literally built the studio around that sound and his workflowhe left about 8000 tracks in his vaults (about 3000 songs, only Duke Ellington wrote about as much, but let's not forget Prince had lyrics to most sings), so he obviously worked very fast , cuz he was hyper creative.
That statement is peak KVR. That tells everyone you have never used a console before because you think using that API would be faster and easier than SSL or Neve. Hint they are not, in a studio time is money and you don't sell consoles that cost as much as a house for something that is tedious and difficult to useWhy did he have built the same API console at Paisley Park? Simply cuz he was used to it.
Beyond that it's rather insulting to Prince's legacy that you continue to falsely accuse him of being some kind of lazy moron who was to stupid to understand how gear works and who didn't care about his tone or sound. Nothing could be further from the truth
The reality is when Prince built Paisley Park he spent millions of dollars to build a 60,000 square foot facility that originally has three complete and separate studios inside. The first Studio A had an SSL console inside of it. It was built for the SSL sound. Since it was a world class commercial studio that many major artists artists would record at Studio A served them well
Studio B was the Sunset Sound clone. It was built to sound like that, as Prince's Private Studio. Since was only 5'2" tall all of the furniture in there is custom built for his height. It wasn't really used or intended to be a commercial space, but his private artists studio with a certain sound
Studio C was built around a Soundcraft ts24 which is what Price was using on tour. It was mainly a rehearsal space where all the gear from the tour could be used because Prince wanted the tour to sound awesome
Later on they converted a room into Studio D which was built to be a protools rig
You are also disrespectful of Robert “Cubby” Colby who was Prince's mix engineer both live and in the studios for all of his classic records, at both Sunset and Paisley
As for the rest of your rant I will spare you further embarrassment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you actually get a clue and stop digging yourself a hole, for example there are many reasons to use a single microphone, but speed isn't one of them when you have a world class mix engineer and full time studio assistants. In a professional studio it's super quick to patch in as many microphones as you want based on the kit being used and when you have a large console with direct outs, multiple busses, and a 2" multitrack recorder it takes only minutes to be recording a dozen or more drum mics and most of the time that will all be preset anyway before the drummer shows up
This is an important and relevant part of the discussion on emulating vintage Synths with plugins, especially if you want to make 1980s tones
Rather than chase down plugins, get ones that work the way you want and have the features that are important to you

I would recommend avoiding all synths and other musical instruments in this case
