I think we all can understand the urge though, even if we don't really drive the car into a lake.AD80 wrote:So instead of getting his money's worth by using it, he decided to trash it? Thats like me driving my new car into a lake becuase the dealer decided to have a sale next month. Plus since he bought it he'll get a cheaper upgrade to T2 than the freebies. I really dont see the problem still. Maybe I'm just dense.

i for one hope spe3d does stick to his word and stop whining in these threads!
the customer has in no way been punished. any current paidfor licenses of T1 are still valid, and it's entirely acceptable that you can still pay for T1. those who have paid (or wish to pay yet) for tracktion will have a discounted upgrade path when they upgrade to T2.
any people who have been holding out on buying Tracktion for when T2 comes out, but decided to just buy it now anyway, will still not lose out; at the end of the day it's already been said that they will pay less in total than if they bought T2 as their first purchase. noone loses here except those with angry attitudes. if tracktion is not for you then there's no disputing that. i'm not going to say cubase is shit, i just hate it. (not saying that's what you've said of course!). each to their own!
congrats all those who are happy about FLS5!
if you feel that mackie are being 'cruel' to their customers by not telling them about things, then i don't think i will ever understand your viewpoint. perhaps you have some other issues?
i find it extremely petty to feel angry about the way mackie are 'treating their customers'. in fact, i think i may just catch fire as a result.

I'm one of the 'anti-Mackie-guys' round here and as I already wrote I think this marketing is both brilliant and generous.
This is very good marketing. I think everyone wins by it.
This is behaviour of a high moral value.
Would please the nay-sayers be so kind as to shut the f**k up?

You are right - I totally overreacted last night - no offence intended to anyone, let alone Jules. I had had a bad dayvalley wrote:fair enough, a lot of people have, but:Bill wrote:I had just about given up on T2
You paid for T1 a few weeks back and already you are tired of waiting for T2? Known for your patience are you?software I paid for a few weeks back
I really don't know. I'm writing music with T1 and have been for over a year now.Why the hell should I hang around waiting for an upgrade to software
How are you being mugged? You admit you know T2 is coming. You also say you are waiting for it, so evidently you were intending to upgrade to it. So when T2 comes out, you pay a small upgrade like the rest of us. The people who got the free version pay some other (probably much larger) sum of money if they want T2, otherwise they can stick with their T1 if they want. How have you lost out in any way here?but at least you don't get mugged like you do round here...

I could argue that I don't benefit from this, as I bought T fairly recently and probably won't be upgrading to T2, unless it somehow surpasses Sonar 4 in features. So...
No big deal, though. I still use T and Final Mix once in a great while, and I like T for what it is and was glad to get it when I did. I'm just saying that an argument can be made that this isn't indeed all that fair for everybody, and in particular I can understand why someone who just paid for it and may not care to upgrade might be a bit miffed that they could have waited a bit longer and had it for free.

already answered a couple of times (though I don't blame you for skimming ten pages worth of this thread.
Your T1 is worth a hefty discount off of the price of T2. Get yourself a free NFR version, and sell your T1 to a prospective T2 buyer (hopefully there will be a few amongst the NFR downloaders). If you sell T1 for $40 then you get hal;f your money back, you still have a copy of T1, and some potential T2 customer gets the software for $40 less than retail. Every one is happy.

Yup, that's a good point, and yup, I wasn't going to read all of 10 pages!valley wrote:Shazbot wrote:I'm just saying that an argument can be made that this isn't indeed all that fair for everybody, and in particular I can understand why someone who just paid for it and may not care to upgrade might be a bit miffed that they could have waited a bit longer and had it for free.

[quote="tingle"]The problem with making Tracktion1 free is that it's saying that Tracktion has no value.quote]
Uhm... Nope. I disagree.
Norwegian online company MusikkOnline gave away loads of music for free for a week of celebrating some anniversary last year, and it brought a lot of good music to my attention. It certainly didn't make me think it was all worthless crap, and it made me buy a few CDs as well. Their free music campaign made MORE people buy their music, both online and in the stores. And I don't think they lost interest because "being free, it must be junk".
Giving away T1 like this will probably make a lot more people look into buying T2. Even though I paid for Tracktion less than two weeks ago, I think it's a brilliant idea. I'll save my cash for what I believe to be the imminent Reason upgrade, but I'm certainly going to pay attention to what's happening here as well.

there's nothing wrong with paying for things!
tingle i think your argument is a bit of a pointless one, and one that has been covered here in this thread plenty already (no offence intended of course)
Tracktion 1 IS worth something. believe it or not there are people who can't justify £50 on sequencing software, despite it being a bargain. so what if they can 'learn' on a freeware one, then upgrade when they feel they need to... now they are legitimately allowed to let that free learning tool be the one that so many of us love as the favourite sequencer of choice. is there anything wrong with that? no!
plus, Tracktion 1 IS worth something; just because it is available free, if you pay for it, you still have a valueable product. T1 owners get discount off T2. If you've paid for T1, it has already been announced that the total cost of T2 (T1 + T2) for you will be less than if you just buy T2 itself when it is released.
This means that while lots of people will now get to 'try' the NFR version now, if they just stick with the free one til T2 comes out, they'll have to pay full T2 price. If they really love it, they can still buy it (it doesn't cost much, as we all know) and then benefit from the upgrade offer when T2 comes out just like the rest of us (who already own Tracktion) will.
so i say again, and i'm sure everyone else will too, Tracktion is definitely worth something. you are still more than allowed to pay for it. and you will benefit if you do.
