He is still is! I caught their reunion tour just a few short years ago, and his playing was blinding, just like in the good old days.Scot Solida wrote:I loved The Jazz Butcher...Max Eider's playing was brilliant!Cheeso wrote:The Jazz Butcher are cult legends. They'd have been massive if there were any justice in the world, and if they had a half decent name.
Bands that could've become true legends, but instead. . ..

I have to say Motorpsycho, because although they're legends in my head and my hometown, they're more of a cult thing elsewhere, I'm afraid.
I'm not totally sure, but they just may be the best band ever in the whole world!

They are legends, just on a fairly small scale... at least for the rabiate zealots*) that follow all things Tortoise, The For Carnation, Papa M etc.

Forbidden Colours
that was the name of one of my bands in the 80s, and it looks like there's a German band now of the same name:

I wonder if they suck as much as we did? I think the description could have been applied to us (though we were a trio). A girlfriend through away all our tapes because my high school sweetheart was our singer. Bitch.

How about Blancmange? In the states we didn't get too much exposure to them.
I was going to mention them aswell, very under-rated but I thought that perhaps "legends" might be going a bit too far! Shame really, their "quirky English" image got the better of them and no-one really took them too seriously. The only other band that comes to mind with a more bland/unsellable image is New Order (and see how badly they have done!).

Sadly, Pierre Moerlen died in his sleep a couple of months ago, in the midst of rehearsals of a new Gong band.Yeah, I love Gong. Quite a few KVR folks seem to dig Gong.
Saw them on the 'Leave It Open' tour at the Edge in Trawna...Damn, could that fella play drums.
Oh yeah... Happy The Man should be revered everywhere.
And Gryphon. Damn the world that fails to appreciate rawk and roll bassoon. Bastards.

Have you heard any of Helge Sten's (of Motorpsycho) electronic/electroacoustic stuff? Deathprod and Supersilent are both excellent.Hovmod wrote:I have to say Motorpsycho, because although they're legends in my head and my hometown, they're more of a cult thing elsewhere, I'm afraid.

KOKOMO could have been legends. They were very cool...

But they might not have reached the dizzy heights that these lads did...

Ok, local legends who should've been bigger. Local = Cincinnati
The Bears, The Raisins, The Psychodots, Over the Rhine, all had national record deals that just seemed to fizzle....
