one thing i absolutely hate is when some pop artist will incorperate an element into his/her music that is very apparent in many non-popular genres, but the pop artist is given emense credit for being original. especially when the "artist" doesnt even produce/write thier own music.

How about the endless variations of:
"Nobody actually enjoys that noise, and if they say they do, they're really lying. They only listen to it to make themselves feel superior to others."
I've gotten that from more than one person when I've mentioned I liked stuff like Stockhausen or Naked City.
They seriously believed that everyone who listens to it really hates it just as much as they do, but won't admit it because they're trying to be cool, and that the musicians who create it are a bunch of evil con-artists who are having some sort of grand joke by making pretentious people pay money for music they really don't like.
They have this bizarre attitude of "Well, if I don't like it, nobody else is allowed to, either!"

I don't listen to music - much. Only a few CDs a week. Never, ever music radio. Sometimes a lot of days goes by without me listening to any music (I read or listen to talk radio). Too much music listening riuns my ability to create music.

You get very similar ones about bands like Autechre 'putting out any old crap because they know people will buy it anyway.' Yep, last thing I heard, Autechre were hanging out on their luxury yacht, taking a five minute break from sneering at the millions of fools who buy their music to record a toaster for their new album, because there's so much money to be made in glitchy electronica...

This especially obtains when the person is a self styled pop music 'expert'. A huge portion of the negative reviews of concerts since the time of Stravinsky and albums since the time of King Crimson are elaborate, name dropping paraphrases of "I have no idea what the hell these people are doing, so it must suck".

In the 50ies there was a heated debate in Sweden re. jazz and morality. One of the arguments was (referring to blues): "These bent half-notes will pervert our youth!"
When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.

Um, I suppose that means if there's no vocals, 'cause vocals would be in "some" language and not everyone would understand them. But if there's no vocals . . . then there is no language, so how can it be universal?
