Still running NI Pro-53 here and love it.

There is something really nice about the filter, although I haven't used Pro-53 for a long time, I still like using the filter in Kontakt.

Here's something where I had some fun adding some internal effects to an otherwise pretty solid bass sound. First part is just delay (but not just some delay... you'll hear it...). Last bit adds an effect that we lovingly call "Jaws" before the delay - a name that certainly suits the process:

It is a bit thin in itself but give it a poke with an EQ and it takes it very well indeed, brings it up to snuff with the fatter of todays synths. I think I bring it out for every track I have started. It does not always make it to the end but it sometimes fits just right. Like all synths in a hectic full mix.

I find the high frequencies of the Pro53 painful to listen to. I am not sure if there is aliasing or something else going on.

That brings me to a somewhat OT subject, a new FX plugin proposal:
I'd love to see all the u-he synths' effects available in a modular effect "rack" for lack of a better word. Combine that with filter modules and a few (4?) LFOs and MSEGs with patch cables to effect parameters, volume, pan, etc, to keep things lively. That's a product I'd be very interested in.

It wouldn't replace the Uhbiks or necessarily compete with them, but would rather just group the filters and effects from ACE, Diva, Hive, RePro (and Bazille?..assuming Sascha's effects are yours to repackage as you like) with patchable modulation sources into a one-stop audio processing package. Maybe distill a compression algorithm from Presswerk for the bundle too?
I just think that it's currently a bit unfortunate that each synth has its own flavor effects, which are all extremely good, but they're not available for anything else (until audio input is implemented in each synth...which might take a while, or not at all).

I haven't included Zebra because Zebrify is part of the Zebra package already. Anyway, just a thought

Yeah I never understood why people needed more than one note at a time on a piano or guitar at a time. I mean a singer only plays one note, same with a trumpet! So why the heck does a piano need more than one note?!

I find it hilarious that Urs said people actually requested mono. So what are they actually asking for? They are asking to not have a single switch on the gui that makes it poly. How is that worth requesting? You can use a synth in mono mode just fine, why would you request that limitation? They can chose to only use mono only. If you are actually selfish enough to request mono only, what you are really doing is asking the developer to prevent other people from playing polyphonically. It doesn't affect you at all. I find this insane.

This is criticism of Urs since the only reason you need is cost if you want to sell it in a certain price range. Just of crazies who want mono only.

Yeah, why would I ever want to buy a screwdriver when I can have a Leatherman. The thing is, the Leatherman, while doing many things, does not do each of those things as well as a dedicated tool.

I cannot speak for why each individual might ask for mono, but it seems to me that focusing on and prioritizing a monophonic sound has its own logic. To optimize for monophonic does not mean it works well for polyphonic.

I think it is good to consider why there are so many monophonic synths and so much monophonic modular gear. It is not just cost. Maybe there is something people like about it.

Also, I completely disagree that asking for monophonic is insane. Pretty much every synth is polyphonic. It is like you (people who insist it must be polyphonic) already have 90% of the territory, but you insist that it must be 100%. Leave one little corner that isn't polyphonic. Why does every last corner have to be forced how you want it? Can't there be some differences and diversity?

Yes, sorry Pro-53 gets brought out a lot and is a little thin at times but EQ sorts it out nicely without sounding contrived. It might be the way the filter resolution vs knob works. And a bit of filter stepping can be audible at high resonance but this can actually create a nice overtone effect. Many presets also have HPF engaged which might suggest it sounds thin. And yes like many older VST synths a leaky HPF where some crunchy computer-y highs still make it through. But it has very good ranges and "sweet spots" I think you guys like to call it here.
