Total no brainer. My recommendation is to G R A B I T.
Hmm, never even heard of this plugin before. Does it provide any benefits over a normal exciter plugin? Or is it essentially an exciter with boosts in specific static frequency ranges depending on the mode you use? So if I have Ozone 7 Advanced already (which I do), which has an exciter, or other exciter plugins, is it worth getting this?

I guess I'm trying to see if there is something different. Sure, it is only 9 bucks, and I'm all about that. But since I've never heard of it before and my hearing has been off this week, looking for thoughts on it. Thanks.

It's good, I think I got it for $60 or $70 and was happy with that.
VSM-3 is also in sale for $99. Bought it along with Maag EQ2 for $108 with the multiple plugins discount making EQ2 effectively $9. (it'll be more expensive if you don't already have EQ4.

That's a no-brainer for sure on Character. It's pretty unique and worth having. VSM-3 is fantastic, superb distortion unit, very flexible. I have at least 8 distortion plugins and VSM gets first shout. I'm on the fence with EQ2 though, not sure if it adds anything much to the wonderful EQ4, it'd be better if they just added the 15kHz option to that in an upgrade. But for effectively $9 it makes another bargain. I have the upgrade option at $29, let me know if you find it useful in addition to EQ4.

If this is like the summer sale I think they might offer everything again at the end of the month and then the multiple plugin discounts really shine :tu:

So is it different from the iZotope exciter plugins?

I'm with you on that, it's good and all but I'm not sure when I'd pull it out over the EQ4, the 15k setting is not hugely important and as for the tighter Q setting if I want to do something surgical I'd probably reach for a full on parametric EQ. Personally $9 was the sweet spot, I wouldn't pay $29, it seems cheap but it all adds up. Resist 3 or 4 cheap $29 plugs and you can get yourself a nice $90-$120 premium plugin that you will REALLY use.

That's what I'm trying to get at. An exciter, by nature, is a plugin designed to provide 'character' to a recording. Because of allergies, my ears have been pretty shot all week and trying the demo probably won't help at this moment.

I may pick it up just because it is sho cheap, but I'm really trying to figure out exactly what people love about it so I know if it is worth even the 9 bucks.

With character you select the frequency (by feel, there are no numbers in hz) that you want to enhance/emphasize/bring out. It's good at letting you emphasize a particular quality of the signal, helping an instrument to stand out more in a busy mix etc.

I've been trying to research it and see it has been around since the Powercore days. There is a GS thread where someone said the dev originally created the algos used in it to detect chemical attacks for the military but, being a guitar player, decided to alter them to pick up on audio frequencies. :o

I'm still not entirely sure what it is doing under the hood, but I suspect it is some kind of tracking EQ and the modes change the section of frequency space(s) affected.. Again that is just a guess. I also can hear some slight compression on the drums demo I listened to... the tail is shortened and it seems well.. compressed.. a bit overall. So still a bit at a loss.. it is a black box.

However, I don't think it is a harmonics generator.. it's not going to add what isn't there, but instead can enhance what is already present.

I think the attracting thing to me would be if there are indeed frequency trackers in it. Going by the product pages, it seems that is the case.

The Noveltech website does say that it affects the dynamics of the source signal as well.

Screw it, just went ahead and bought it. It would be a tragedy if I didn't get $9 worth of quality out of this over time, lol. Once my allergies clear up, I'll run it through some paces.

Now if their vocal enhancer would just go on sale......seems similar to Character, but dedicated towards vocals. Who knows, every week will be a different sale on PA it seems!

Thanks for all the thoughts on Character.

I really like Plug in Alliance and it's great reading the above posts. I think for this month, Softube gives you more bang for buck with the Volume One option. You are getting some great effects and a couple of fantastic instruments thrown in for the price.

Character is top drawer though.

lol. I haven't updated yet. I'm thinking of giving my system a reformat but can't quite work myself up to a weekend of pain.
