While we're at it, where else do the waves coupons work?

How "fair" is that if Waves says code only works once?OneOfManyPauls wrote:maybe try the same code at everyplugin.com
I'm kind of thinking if that is OK, then it must be OK that I open a new separate account at Samplephonics just to get their £30 voucher ?

Pretty sure the code would work, simply because not every single retailer can know if you didn't use it anywhere else before. But it is neither fair nor allowed. Apart from that it's pretty likely that Waves will find out sooner or later. After all, the retailers have to report their sales to the manufacturer, naturally, and thereby they also have to tell them how many coupons have been used on their website and when. Even more, they may well be able to track every single sale back to the buyer because of the serial numbers (which are given out by the retailer and the registered at Waves).Numanoid wrote:How "fair" is that if Waves says code only works once?OneOfManyPauls wrote:maybe try the same code at everyplugin.com

Totally not fair. It's absolutely working the system. So, you shouldn't do it, which is better for the rest of us. You see, Waves is well aware that some people will abuse this. They've factored that in to their promotion. They also know that having their own system check is adequate to stop some amount of abuse, in other words, it's a numbers game. So the fewer people that abuse this, the less incentive they have to tighten restrictions. That's why it's better if you don't use the coupon more than once so those of us with a lesser moral compass can keep getting sweet deals on Waves plugins.Numanoid wrote:How "fair" is that if Waves says code only works once?OneOfManyPauls wrote:maybe try the same code at everyplugin.com

Waves have done an exemplary job of devaluing their plugins themselves. They probably don't care about that "abuse" as they have their own proprietary pimp tax known as wup to indefinitely make up the difference.ghettosynth wrote:Totally not fair. Yep, I don't think that they care either beyond, as I say, implementing base level restrictions that are low cost, e.g., not allowing you to use it more than once on their own site.masterhiggins wrote:Waves have done an exemplary job of devaluing their plugins themselves. Well, as somebody who took advantage of the code both at the Waves site and Every Plugin, I will say that I don't think it is a huge deal. If Waves only want the code used once, they can restrict it on their site. But if Every Plugin or other retailers want to use a code, that is their decision. I mean, most of the third party plugin sites already offer discounts, including Every Plugin. I'm guessing that Every Plugin may have independently added their own coupon code into the system that matched the PLUGINDAY20 discount (and it should be noted that Every Plugin doesn't give the full $20 off, but only makes up the difference between their already existing discount and the $20).masterhiggins wrote:Waves have done an exemplary job of devaluing their plugins themselves. The plugin resellers have their costs with Waves. I really doubt that Waves themselves told the resellers to honor the code, and if they did, they would have implemented a way for the reseller to check against the Waves system to see if the code was already used.
Is it gaming the system if a third party reseller decides to honor their own code that just happens to match one that Waves did? I'm a consumer. I want to save money. Whether I used the FORUM or GROUP codes at JRR Shop, or the PLUGINDAY20 code at Every Plugin, I'm going to save wherever I can. And considering that I wasn't even sure I would get the plugin at all without the discount, Waves actually wins here because if I like the plugin, I'll be purchasing extended WUP down the road. WUP is where Waves seems to make much of their money these days anyways, isn't it?

I do agree with ghettosynth and I don't think that Numanoid's situation applies here.ghettosynth wrote:Totally not fair. It's absolutely working the system. One thing is to create multiple accounts to fool an entity that you're multiple customers (which you are not), another thing is to use a coupon codes on several retailers.
I've used the coupon at Waves only once (as specified by Waves), then I'm going to buy something from EveryPlugin and also use a coupon code. I'm buying from two different entities. I don't know how the coupon system works, are Wave's coupons connected to EveryPlugin's coupons? I don't know, nor is it my obligation to know!
See it this way: if the coupon code at EveryPlugin was "GIMME20" instead of being equal to the Wave's, would it be morally wrong? It's the same situation, two different entities, just the coupons have the same code.
