(i) buy the OWD DL edition - because those might get the playability enhancements?mrhudson wrote:Alrighty, here's a question! So, now that I'm in the group buy, these coupons are pretty tempting. With this package, we get ENHANCED e-drum playability on the OWD kits. So, we start playing them, start loving, then should I:
Getting the OWD DL Edition is a good idea and there is a good chance we'll be able to bring over the features somehow - just no guarantee yet. But one of the best things about being able to check out 10 different kits in THIS Group Buy is to know which ones you'd want to have 3 full mixes of (which you get by getting the full DL edition) and also which kits to pick a la carte which can either be the ones you have here for more mixes OR the kit numbers you don't have.
(ii) Or, just go for OWD gold (i.e., if it is known that the DL editions won't get those enhancements applied?)
Well, GOLD is really great to have anyway even without all of the enhanced features. There's more of a chance DL will get those features added at least quicker than the multichannel OWD (Silver & Gold) but... I don't think my friends at Ocean Way are against it or anything. It just depends on what their plans are for next year and what they want to focus on... plus remember they ARE busy producing albums with major artists and things like that! But they are really cool and I personally think it is only a matter of time before we find a way to do it.
I guess part of the question is - what is "lost", so to speak, in terms of e-drum playability from this group buy to the OWD Gold version?
Well, Silver and Gold OWD have GM, iMAP and V-Drum mapping. They don't have the custom map with midi learn where you can assign anything to anything. BUT, remember you can also just map your e-Drum kit hardware TO the kit (of any of those formats) and in many ways that is better because you can do it ONCE and it works (so you can do that with this GB as well of course). You don't have control over the round robin in the GUI like you do here but there is round robin under the hood in OWD's V-Drum maps. Look, it won tons of awards as it is and people do love it. So, it isn't that it NEEDS these updated features... but the newest features we have in this group buy ARE nice. No doubt. Bottom line is this. IF you love the sound of Ocean Way Drums and you want the ability to mix so many mics discretely per kit piece then GET IT! It's great.
And, any update on whether the DL versions will get the playability enhancements that you've mentioned for this group buy. Could one recreate the entirety of OWD Gold through the downloaded multichannel kits at a comparable price (to get any playability enhancements?) Some important questions I think when considering any coupon assisted purchase.
Not sure I understand this part but I think I answered it above?
Remember too that you will get coupons for Drum Masters 2 Multitrack Drum Kits & Grooves as well, plus Signature Drum Kits Vol. 1 & 2. I know it is tough to know what you get there because it isn't released yet. But it will be next month and you DO retain ALL of the same features plus more (with the Multitrack kits there's even more) and you'll be able to expand your set up with more sounds that way as well.
